Re: Has anyone lost Both Parents?

Yes. My father first.. which just wrecked my mom. When my sister died a year later she really just caved and felt like she had no reason to live. She died 5 years after my father.. she just gave up.

It's not easy being without your parents.. even when you are all grown up. If you need anyone to talk to, please know I'm here.

Re: Has anyone lost Both Parents?

I lost my dad, but since his death, my mom is not the same, but I understand- she lost the love of her life, her soul mate, the father of her children, her best friend etc. No one will ever compare to my Dad. I miss him everyday.Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone lost Both Parents?

All:

One of my best friends has lost both her parents and only has 1 family member, an 88 year old grandma. She is single and is very worried what happens when you grandmother passes away.

Does anyone have any advice for her? She doesn't have anyone in her life that is in the same situation--I try to help her as much as possible, I invite her to every holiday but she always declines.

I lost both of my parents and am an only child. It is not an easy situation to be in, but it has changed my definition of family. My best friends are my family and they treat me as such. I say keep inviting her -- she might say yes one of these days! She is lucky to have you in her life. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Has anyone lost Both Parents?

Yes, lost both parents about five years apart (they were divorced). It's the club that nobody wants to join Chat Icon
As others have posted, your definition of family changes - grown cousins and their families become my direct family - and my friends (while far away in another state) are extended family too.

Has anyone lost Both Parents?

Yes, lost my Mom on the 7th of October and my Dad on the 29th of November. This coming on the heels of losing my wife in 2012.
