DSLR Moms
Don't know where this post belongs, so thought I'd just put it here
I have a Nikon D3000 and I have the 2 lenses that came with it. I have been wanting to add a new lens to my collection but I am not sure what lens to get for what I want. I primarily use it to take pictures of the kids (I do my own, I stopped going to studios) and candids at family gatherings and events. Any reccomendations??

I don't have any suggestions but am curious as well! I just ordered this camera...my first "real" camera!
Was it easy to figure out? I am debating getting the "Nikon D3000 for Dummies" book lol.

I have a D5000 that came with the18-55 and 55-200. I just got a 50mm 1.8G last week and am in love with it!! It's a great portrait lens.

50mm 1.8 is an awesome lens and pretty cheap as far as lenses go.

50mm 1.8 is great for portrait type pictures. They come out pretty crisp and the background is really blurred.
However, I am on my second 50mm 1.8....they aren't built very sturdy if you get the inexpensive one. Last one fell while inside my bag and broke (wouldn't focus). This time the entire lens just came out of the housing. Popped back in, but I feel like it's not the same...pics are a bit blurry now. They are cheap enough to replace though ($120 or so on Amazon).

Nope it's less than $120 on Amazon and a bunch of other retailers. Actually the Nikon is like $125 on Amazon....I have a Canon.
Actually I just looked and you are right, there IS one that is $220, but there is also another one that is $100 less. Not sure the difference for a Nikon though.

I believe you are speaking of the D lens. The G lens had no aperture ring as the distance information is digitally transmitted to the camera body, in the D lens there is a manual aperture ring.
Actually I just looked and you are right, there IS one that is $220, but there is also another one that is $100 less. Not sure the difference for a Nikon though.
