She refuses to drink milk from anything else.. I tried every cup in the world.. The soft sport nuby, reg sippy cups, toss out ones.. She will not.. she actually makes a chill in her body and like a skeeved out face when I try to give it to her and she dosent expect it to be milk .. then If I pour it in to a bottle she sucks it down.. I dont want her to stop drinking it .. she begs for a bottle in the am and at night .. Please help me I am about this .. she is the only kid I see this age doing it

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
What about from a straw cup? I am starting to transition DS now.
DS is 18 mo and still get,s a bottle at nap time and bed time. My first DS was off bottles totally at 13 mo. Honestly, this kid didn't start sleeping through the night until he was almost a year old. If I have to keep the bottles for a few more months to get him to sleep I'm all for it

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I feel your pain. DD is only 14 months but will not TOUCH a sippy with milk in it. Guzzles water and juice from a sippy but if theres milk in it- she literally throws it and totally refuses it!

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I don't have any advice but just wanted you to know you aren't alone. DS is 20 months and still has a couple of bottles a day. Our ped said to let him have it till 2 years old- is that normal or no?

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I dont think a bottle at 21 months is bad.. I think we put the pressure on ourselves. DD gave me a hard time but eventually took to that NUBY sippy, if she didnt I am sure Id be giving her bottles as well. She is now 20 months. She took about 10oz a day for over 2 weeks when I did start it but I was OK with that. She eats yogurt and cheese, cereal icecream ect so she is getting her dairy. I would not stress out so much.. I have 2 friends with LO's that still drink out of bottle. I have never even thought it was a 'wrong' thing.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
DD is 16 months old and is the same way - she hates the sippy and especially hates the Nuby sippy. When I give her a bottle she sucks it down. I try to limit the bottles to morning and night and in daycare they give her sippy cups but I know she is barely drinking. It is what it is - I will worry about it at 2 years old. FYI I see kids who are 3 years old with bottles still...not saying it's a good thing but we are not the only ones.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
My dd got a bottle until she was 2 years 1 month. "Santa" took them away to babies who needed them and left her big girl sippy cups (which she used for juice, water, already). I'm not gonna lie, it was like living with a drug addict going through withdrawals at first. She refused milk until she found a cup that she really loved and still uses it to this day (it's actually the take and toss cup with abbie cadabie on it) for her milk. Just keep offering it and they'll eventually give in.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
DS turns 2 at the end of June, and still has 4 bottles a day. I am choosing not to worry about it.
Ped. said as long as he doesn't fall asleep with it, it's OK.

Have you tried the born free with the really soft spouts? That was what did the trick with us to transition him...

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I highly recommend a straw cup as well - DD never really took to regular sippys but loved the straw cups. I think it helps that I use straws to drink so maybe you could use straws in your drinks for awhile and then offer her a straw cup. Good luck!

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
With my DD we went through the same thing. She would drink water in a straw/sippy cup but expected milk to come in a bottle.
When we ended the bottle, we just stopped putting milk in a bottle. We would only offer it in a cup. She wanted the milk and eventually gave in and never had a problem.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
My girls are almost 18months old.. My one DD will drink from anything bottle, sippy whatever. My other DD will NOT drink from a sippy. She shakes it, dumps it looks at it etc. I have a collection in the cabinet. Dora, Elmo, Nuby etc. ONCE she drank from the Nuby and never did it again!

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I too feel your pain. My daughter at nearly 20 months really relies on her milk bottle to relax. It's how she soothes herself. We try taking it away but she gets so upset she cries to the point of making herself sick. This seems like a battle we won't be winning too soon but hopefully it won't go too far past her 2nd birthday.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
Not that I am at all qualified here, considering I have a 12 month old who uses me as a paci and refuses bottles, but this is what I remember when I freak out thinking my DD is going to BF until college-I know no high schooler, middle schooler, or even elementary schooler who uses a bottle or BFs.
I may be wrong, but I would let her have the bottle and in a few months when you can reason with her, get the bottle fairy to take her bottles and leave her a special toy!

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I am very lucky. They both self weened from their pacifiers and their thumbs just gave them up at like 6 months or so. Just can't get my one DD to get with that sippy cup.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
Just letting you know, you are not alone. DS will be 3, yes 3! He WILL NOT drink milk unless it's in his bottle one in the morning and one at night. Everything else from a straw sippy cup. I'm going cold turkey after his birthday at the end of the month. It's his only vice so I never really forced it. I never did a soft spout cup because I don't see the difference between that and a bottle. 21 months isn't bad. Don't stress

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
My sister's 2 year old still has a bottle.
Food for thought...my mom took me and my sister's bottles away early, and we are high strung neurotic messes ; she let my brother keep his until he was 4, and he is one of the most laid back people I know. The only person I know who is more laid back than my brother is my DH, who also had a bottle until he was four. Maybe there is something to be said for it!!

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
Abby was drinking milk only from a bottle up until she got sick last month and I wasn't giving her milk at all because of mucous. I used it as an opportunity to stop the bottle - PERIOD. She whined for a couple of days but there was no going back. She has less milk now than she did before as she uses a sippy cup, but she does ask for milk now and she eats a lot more. Those of you who know me, know that Abby is a major behavioral eater and every meal since before she was on table food, was pure torture. This was very good for us - cold turkey.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
My son is almost 2&1/2 and still drinks a bottle. I don't fight him on it. We get his teeth checked and I know I'll be able to break the habiit just like I did for DD and the pacifier when she was 3.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
DS was the same way, he didn't mind me taking the bottle away, but he refused to drink milk any other way. I let him keep the bottle til he was 2 because I felt it was more important that he drink milk than be off the bottle. The day I took away the bottle was the last time he ever drank milk. nothing worked, not choc milk, strawberry, vanilla, not milk boxes. Nothing. Don't worry about it there is no harm done.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
I am really happy to read this thread. DS is 18 months old and we've bought and tried almost every cup BBB sells! Only wants milk and ONLY in his bottle! I hope we can make some progress in the next few months!! I am glad I am not alone!

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
try the straw cup, or when your ready just don't give the bottles, they eventually adjust.
My older DD had a bottle till almost 2. my middle DD gave it up willingly at 13 months. each child is different.

Re: 21 months and still drinks a bottle
My dr. said to take it away when they reach 24 months (2 years). My ds didn't have one in daycare, he just used it before he went to bed. Maybe you can phase it out like that, slowly taking the bottles away during the day.
