My 7 1/2 month old wants me to hold him ALLLL day...what do i do??

He doesnt want me to put him down for one minute. He could be laughing and happy and as soon i put him down with his toys he cries hysterical. No matter what time of day and i know hes not hungry, tired or has a dirty diaper. I dont know what to do. I feel so bad making him cry but i cant get anything done around my house. Even when my DH goes to take him he clings to me and will cry if he takes him out of my arms, same with anyone else. I know this is probably just a phase but wow its so hard and my back is killing me from holding him! My girls werent like this at all. Anyone go through this, what should i do? Thanks!

I am going through exactly this with my 6 month old. I am going nuts! I was actually on searching the chat board for some answers. I don't really believe in crying it out- but I can't put DD down to do anything, eat, go to the bathroom, make her food. I am sure it is a phase and I have to say I love being needed it just a little too much. It doesnt help that I have a bad sinus infection and feel terrible and her screaming is giving me headaches!

I hope someone has advice for us! But I am in the same exact boat- she will be screaming and hysterical but as soon as I pick her up she is happy and fine- I put her back down she is uncontrollable again!

My 6 1/2 month old just started doing the same thing this weekend.

I think it is separation anxiety.

What I've been doing is bringing her into whatever room I am in and working around her, but I make sure she can see me and I talk to her the whole time.

Also, try playing peek-a-boo. If I am in the kitchen, I will duck under the counter and pop back up and say "peek-a-boo" and she starts laughing.

I read somewhere that peek-a-boo at this age is a good game to play because you are reassuring them in a fun way that you will be back.

It's ok to let them cry a little. Try not to pick him up, but let him know you are still there.

Thanks! I will try the peek a boo. I usually bring him in the room im in but most times he will sit for only a few min before flipping out. I sit there sing, dance, jump around and he doesnt want to hear it....lol. I feel so bad for not wanting to hold him 24/7 but he is 23 lbs...my back is breaking!

DS is almost 7mo old and getting to be the same way. Having twins, I really can't hold him all the time (so I know I didn't create this monster ). So, I just keep him near me in his highchair, jumperoo, or exersaucer and talk to him, sing to him, make frequent eye contact...and, every once in a while, I go over and give him a hug or a kiss.
I am hoping he starts to see that I am still there and not ignoring him.

Yep- same here.
She's been like this since birth.

To be honest- there are times i just let her CIO in the pack n play, jumperroo, crib, whatever.
I can't carry her around all day.

After a while she will either calm down, or if she doens't- I will eventually pick her up- but only after I get done what i need to.

I can only hope she outgrows it.

Hold that baby!! They are meant to be held imo! One day they will be big and won't stand still for a minute! Thats my only advice!
