Going from oil to gas

Our house uses oil for heating and gas for hot water/stove/dryer.

We're thinking about switching over our heating to gas. The gas line is already in the house, so it's just a matter of getting a new boiler (or is it a burner? Are they the same thing? I never really know..... Chat Icon Chat Icon )

Has anyone done this with the gas line alredy in the house? What were the expenses out-of-pocket? Did the gas company reimburse you for anything? Do you find that the heat is better with the gas? Our house is ancient (read - not energy efficient AT ALL!) and we're blazing through oil like it's going out of style. Chat Icon

Also - what do we do with the oil tank in our basement? It will be virtually impossible to get it out (I think...) - do we just seal it up into a closed-off area?
Thanks so much!

We did, it was around $8k with the oil tank abandonment. Ours was in the ground outside. Call National grid they will give you a few names and you can get estimates. We are getting an $800 rebate.
