Formula prices and opinions on these brands?

I still EBF, but will at some point need formula. I was looking for the larger powdered formula in these:

Nestle/Gerber Good Start
Target brand
BRU brand
BJ's brand

I could have sworn I saw Good Start in like a 27oz can for like $15??? Maybe either in BRU or Target? I could be wrong.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

We used Target Brand-My son is perfect!

He has a lot more money in his account, Target brand is 1/3 the price.

Re: Formula prices and opinions on these brands?

i started off with Enfamil Premium and really liked it.

i then switchedat around 7 motnhs to BJ's formula and DD did absolutely fine on it. it's only $19.99 for three times the amount of Enfamil that cost $24.99. i wished i switched sooner.

I just switched to Bru's formula. DS only had it once so far and did not have any reaction to it. He is EBF, but sometimes when I'm not in the mood, DH will just make him a bottle, that happens once in a blue moon.

i use the gerber/nestle good start and have never seen it for $15, when they are having a sale you can get them in bru for $19.99 but they become very hard to find, i stalk the stores looking for them and buy even if i dont need at that moment if they are on sale

We were on good start after we weaned off alimentum. I was on RTF at first but then switched to powder b/c DS daycare gave us a can of powder a week as part of their infant feeding program.

we used to get the giant can in walmart for like $15 then it went up to $19. but Gerber has the best coupons for them if you sign up.

We used Target brand Sensitive formula. At the Target by us, it's $14.89 per can. Can't beat it!!!

DD has been on tons of different formulas because of colic and the best one is Good Start Gentle for her. I get it for 19 bucks at Target, and if you sign up for coupons with Target they send you a lot of 3 dollar off coupons.

We used Target brand for both boys, and there were no problems whatsoever. It's 1/3 of the price and ingredients are all the same.

Re: Formula prices and opinions on these brands?

I started with Similac, and then tried all different generic brands. DD had no problem with any of them, and my Dr. said as long as I'm using the regular type of , it didn't matter which brand.

BUT: I have a friend who used to work for Enfamil. She did medical research and advertising. She said that she personally would give her child Enfamil over Similac, but would give Similac over the generics. She said the generics use lower quality ingredients. She said the ONLY exception was KIRKLAND, and that right now KIRKLAND IS THE SAME AS SIMILAC. Manufactured by Abbot. So, I switched to Kirkland. It turned out to be the cheapest anyway. DD had no problems with it, and it wasn't effected during the recall.

Re: Formula prices and opinions on these brands?

From a ped dieitian:

I will start off by saying I am an enfamil supporter, but here are the breakdowns of the formula's
I find that gentelase is the best formula for supplementing with bm also.
I prefer enfamil b/c it is the closest formulation to BM, meets .2% and above recommendation for DHA, full product line and does not contain sucrose.

Enfamil:
Protein - 60/40 whey/caesin, .3% DHA
contains 2 prebiotics to promote growth of probiotics
Only one on the market with a product with extra vit d (newborn) to meet new AAP recommendations of 400IU

Gerber:
Protein - 100% whey, .3% DHA, formula's contain prebiotics & other probiotics

Similac - 70/30 - caesin/whey, .15% DHA - only formula on the market that does not meet DHA recommendation, - 1 prebiotic,

Generic - varies, but most are more similar to enfamil and contain proper .3% DHA
I do not recommend generic's until 6mths b/c formula is sole source of nutrition and the vitamin quality is not as good as branded. ALthough I would choose generic over similac b/c of DHA. I would recommend buying generic diapers, wipers, beauty and cleaning products b/f generic formula though.
