hospital bag ?

I think I have seen a list of items for what you need in your hospital bag? Does anyone have the list?

Should I go to drug store and get travel size stuff??

Re: hospital bag ?

-2 sets of PJs or (3)
-a few changes of underwear
-1-2 pkgs of overnight pads (the hospital ones stink)
-I brought my own pillow
-clothes for you and the baby to come home with
-maybe a few snacks for you after delivery/during hospital stay
-trial size items are good to get you through
-some people bring music/ipods ( I wanted none of this)
-contact list for after delivery
Hope this helps!Chat Icon

Here's another one!

Toiletries
Bathrobe
PJ's (preferably a long shirt because the nurses will be prodding and poking all the time and it will be annoying to keep pulling pants on and off)
Thick pads (the hospital provides them but they're HUGE!)
Tucks
Extra undies that you plan on tossing afterwards
Going home outfit for you and baby
Slippers
Socks
Flip flops for the shower
Clothes and toiletries for DH
If you're planning on breastfeeding: Lanolin, breast pads, a boppy pillow (My LIFESAVER for breastfeeding after having an unexpected c-section) and nursing bras
I also brought a small cd-player for when I was laboring - it really helped to have calming music.

Re: hospital bag ?

I didn't bring the car seat with me to the hospital. They will not let you put the baby into the car seat there. You will have to hold the baby as the wheel you out. But you do have to be sure that the seat is installed.

As for the pads, I found that the hospital pads, (although they were bulky and big) worked very well.

I also suggest bringing any pillows (the ones you get at the hospital are flimsy) and a comforter or throw.. I am the type of person that likes a nice plush comforter, so that was a plus for me.

I also suggest bringing your own towels as well.

oh and another piece of advice, go with a dark colored pj as opposed to light colored. You will not realize how much you are going to bleed until you have given birth. I made the mistake of wearing a light colored one when I had my son and it bled right through. At least with the darker colored pjs, it's not as noticeable and you won't be embarrassed if you get any leakage in front of any guests you may have.

I completely agree with all of this, except, check with your hospital about the car seat. The only way we could be checked-out was for them to make sure that we had the baby strapped in the car seat correctly.
I brought sooo much stuff and I didn't even need it.

Oh yes, I agree with the car seat thing.. What I meant is that I didn't bring the car seat with me into the hospital. My husband had asked if we could strap my son (the first one) into the car seat and bring him down and then snap him in, but they said that we couldn't do that. They did check to make sure that the seat was properly installed and that my son was strapped in correctly.

Oh, another piece of advice. Do NOT bring a diaper bag. I know this sounds silly but you will have so much stuff (diapers/wipes/formula/oitnment, etc.) to bring home with you that you do not need a diaper bag. And be sure to empty everything out of the cabinet under the baby's bassinet. That's for YOU to take home. What you don't take home, they will throw away.
