Normal for almost 18 month old
DD will be 18 months in 2 weeks
We used to be able to read books to her, and she would sit for them most of the time, now she'll sit for about 10 seconds then up, moving, never really sitting down, on the go. I am trying to teach her more words and the alphabet but it seems like her attention span is zero.
I know she's not 5yrs old or anything, but when I hear that other 18 month olds can repeat the alphabet, say numbers etc I'm thinking, is my DD just not getting it? Or am I just not doing something I should with her? She says about 10-15 words (10 of them are consistent), knows her body parts, and specific things (like I'll say get the red ball, and she knows which one to get).
Just asking for any insight here, thanks!

i'll be honest-with my first child i thought that by 18 months she would be more like a pre-schooler i don't know why, but i did! now that she is older (3.5 yrs) and my DS is 18 months, i realize how young and little he is! not that they shouldn't know stuff like ABC's or that some kids do, but it's just not the norm. so what your DD is doing (not wanting to sit there) is so normal and fine. you will see so much more learning in the second year too-it's amazing! sounds like she's right on track with what she knows right now

Re: Normal for almost 18 month old
Bravo..my 18 month old never sat down for you to read her a book for more than 20 seconds.
I wouldn't worry about what other kids can do. The whole saying the alphabet thing was a memorization thing or that child was well above the norm. At 18 months my DD has 10 or less words. I would worry as she gets closer to 2 if there are no more words or word explosion. Every child i different and learns at their own pace. Talk to your ped and they will tell you the milestones they are looking for and recommend EI if necessary.

my ddwill be 18 months in 2 weeks too...
no words really, mama / dada.... and k ??
communicates very well though - know's lots of things when asked, she'll point and let us know she understands.
I have been told it's not an issue.
Part of me though still wonders....
when is it an issue???

Tommy is the same way. He will barely sit still for me to read him a story. I would love to read to him but he's so squirmy!!
