Does anyone avoid buying certain brands...
or shopping at certain stores and if so... what are your reasons.
For me, I stay away from all Nestle milk based products because they aren't hormone free and they contain pus and stuff... trust me, I'm not a health food nut at all but pus and hormones in milk just gross me out.
I also don't buy Sobe because I know a lady who knows the founder and she said he was a nasty nasty man to his employees, why would I want to contribute to this guys fortune when he is a jerk to these people who probably get paid next to nothing...
Idk there's others I'm sure but I can't remember what they are.
Am I the only one who does this or do you all do this too?

Re: Does anyone avoid buying certain brands...
I don't buy Nestle products either, but for different reasons. My mother stopped buying Nestle products in 1978 when the Nestle Boycott began (it is an international movement); Nestle went to impoverished areas/countries and had people dress as nurses and pass out formula to new mothers. The free samples often lasted long enough for the mother's milk to dry up.
These were poor people who could not afford the formula or sanitized water, many did not have the means or knowledge to do proper sanitation of bottles or water before mixing the formula. Many babies died from disease in the water and many others died from malnutrition because they mother would "stretch" the formula.
The WHO organization created a Code of Marketing of Breast Milk Substitutes in 1981 which Nestle claims to follow however they are continuously being called out for marketing that is not in line with the WHO code.

I look for ingredients - the more chemical sounding things in an item, the less likely I am to want to buy it. I really try to avoid corn syrup/HFCS and any fake ingredient products as much as possible.

I do try to avoid buying things that are tested on animals...if I can find an alternative, I will buy that instead! I remember when we were little, my friend and I heard that White Rain tested on animals, so to this day I still won't use those products!

I almost exclusively buy organic products. I do not want to eat the antibiotics, pesticides and hormones that are sadly still allowed to be put in our food.

Same here. I won't buy any produce from Mexico because there are no regulations on pesticides there (some things I can't find organic).

ITA. nestle has a lot of questionable business practices... i forget the number, but their formula marketing techniques in developing countries are responsible for tons of infant deaths. and among other things their cocoa sellers use child slave labor (their 2 bar kit kats are the only product on their line that don't).
they own TONS of subsidiaries too, so boycotting them as a whole is tough, but i'm slowly working my way through the list of brands (many i don't buy just because i don't use their products also).

Absolutely ditto to both!
I also avoid Sushi for this reason; you don't know where the fish is from, and a lot comes from overseas and the majority is not inspected when it gets to this country because the government just doesnt have the means to inspect it all.

I also try to avoid Nestle. I don't agree w/ their business practices. Both past and present.
I also won't shop at Wal-mart unless I've exhausted other options. I believe they're the root of all evil.

Seriously...who DOES this? Is business that necessary to have people DIE?
I personally hate Walmart and go out of my way not to shop there if I can avoid it. Their practices in middle America make me sick. (they go out of their way to put mom and pop stores out of business so they are the only game in town, they also make workers work 34 hours a week, which is just enough to NOT pay them health benefits).
I also saw an AWFUL Capri Sun post on FB...
