If I intended to keep it and use it, I washed it. If it was a duplicate or didn't fit etc, I returned it for store credit.

Anything and everything that could get washed got washed. I still do it but am a freak like that though.

I washed all the newborn to 3mo clothing, blankies, socks, burp cloths, etc.
I sorted everything else by size larger than 3 mo and put into the bins in his closet. There is still stuff with tags brand new and as DS goes up into those sizes I take them out and wash them.

I washed everything first and still do.
I never do it for myself but always for him.
I even washed the cloth covers on his swings, bouncers etc.

I washed everything (bibs, sheets, blankets, clothes, onsies etc.) up until a year then she wore it as I bought it

i did before she was born. up until about a month ago (she is 3.5mos) i washed everything. then i realized the outfits and clothes that she hadn't even worn before she grew out of it and there was nothing i could do about it.
