Was anyone OK about going back to work?

Ive been on maternity leave since Nov and will be returning to work in Sept. Since im a teacher and school ends this week, im basically thinking my leave ends this week bc i would be off the summer anyway.

I know come the last week in Aug im gonna be crying my eyes out, but right now, im finally starting to be OK about returning to work. Part if me is actually really looking forward to it. And then i feel guilty about that. I LOVE DS to death, but sometimes its like groundshogs day over here and sometimes i just dont want to have to try and make plans to do things. Theres just so many GTGs and playdates i can do ya know?

Don't feel guilty about it Michele. You spent a good chuck of the first year home with Will. Being a SAHM mom isn't for everyone. I find it extremely hard sometimes and have had moments where I wished I was a working mom! Because you are a teacher you will always have your summers with him too Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Do'nt feel guilty. Although I was going to miss him terribly - I was looking forward to getting some time to myself at work LOL.

I do still miss him terribly, especially on Mondays, but, I try to keep busy.

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

I stayed home for 5.5 months and was not ready to go back. I cried about it for a week before hand and then the first 2 days I was back. By the following week, it was like I had never left and now it's honestly not bad at all. I miss DS like crazy, but it's actually really nice to have adult conversation and take a break from boogers and poop Chat Icon Walking in my front door and getting a huge smile from DS is the best part of the day and it has really made me enjoy my time with him soooo much more.

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

If I was able to stay home for 11 months (instead of 11 weeks) I'm sure I'd feel the same. It was HARD for me to go back but she was so little. Now that she's older it's a lot easier and the smiles and jumps for joy that I get when I get home are the best part!! Don't feel bad that you feel that way! Chat Icon

I WAH for a while with DS so when it was time to put him in daycare at 13 weeks it was a bit of a relief. I don't think I could be a full time SAHM but I'd love to do it part time.

I totally was. I cried leaving DS for the first time (he was 11 months), but I enjoy my job and looked forward to going back.

ITA with Linda... love being a mom, but not sure if I can be a SAHM. Ideally would love to work part time and make lots of money Chat Icon

Plus, the highlight of my day is heading out of the office to pick up Mason. I love watching him interact with his teachers and friends. He's a social butterfly

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

I am lucky thatI work part time, but I wentback after 3 weeks with DS#1 and 4 weeks with DS#2, and atlthough it was rough, it's a nice break too. Don't feel guilty about wanting to return to work, you've been home a nice long time. There's nothing wrong with reutrning to something you love and then you get to come home to something you love even more.

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

I was okay-with DD and with DS.

Yes, it was hard, but that is par for the course with being a mom and I knew I was doing what was right for my family.

I miss(ed) my kids but, overall, I was relatively fine with the first few weeks of drop off.

The only part that was unbearably hard for me was that my first week back with DD I had a business trip (in AZ). That was horrible because I went from seeing her 24 hours to not seeing her for 3 days, but other than that I did well.

DDs old daycare was right around the corner from my office, so I visited her a lot during the day. I couldn't do that with DS since we changed daycares but by the time DS came around, I was practically a pro at the drop off.

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

I love working. And I love my children. I don't see it as mutually exclusive at all.

Truth is, I'm a better mommy, a better person and a better wife, when I fulfill my own needs through work.

I enjoyed a wonderful, laid-back, enriching 6 month maternity leave with Yael, but yes, I was certainly eager to get back, and was happy to settle back into my routine.

Different strokes for different folks - that's the beauty of the world, right?

I was ok with it. I never wanted to clone myself so badly though so the real me could bounce back & forth between working & staying at home.

I agree with Julz that part time or work from home a few days a week would have been ideal.

I agree with this.... I really appreciate being able to work part time.

I was just on a 3 week vacation with my family and was basically taking care of dd 24/7 for 3 weeks and I couldn't WAIT to get back to my part time job. There are days that I can't stand leaving dd and there are days that I'm literally ready to run out the door (mostly sick/teething/clingy days).

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

I think part-time would be ideal. My mom watched DS in the beginning, and it made it so much easier for me knowing he was with her. It's also easier now that he is older (as your DS will be)...As a newborn I felt like only I could understand what his cries meant, and now he's so much more independent at 1 year...Chat Icon

Exactly my situation. I love being home pretty much all day everyday but the few hours I do work a week breaks up the monotony and makes me feel like I have something else going on in my life for myself.

Re: Was anyone OK about going back to work?

Personally being a SAHM would not work for me. I LOVE my DS more then anything and I miss him like crazy every day but that makes my time with him so much more special and valued, and for me I worked hard in my career and in school and i need to have both!

I think its great to be a SAHM if it works for you, but i have a freind who does it and all she does is complain about her kids and how miserable she is and hoe she has no time for herself, plus she got so fed up, she put one in day care anyway and stays home with her other one. I am only going by what i see.

what works for you personally is what is best for your family. Dont feel bad!!!

I was fine with it. I was sad at first but used to it quick fast. I am not a SAHM type at all. Its good for some people but definitely not me.
