Room Locations

We have a cape.

Downstairs is the "master" and a smaller bedroom. Upstairs is 2 larger bedrooms.

Right now we have the kids upstairs (one room each) and we are in the master and the extra room is our "office".

The kids (3 & 4) like to come down in the middle of the night and sleep with us. We are trying to stop it and are lost for ideas.

My DH was thinking maybe we should move our room and office upstairs and give them the 2 rooms downstairs. That way they may be less inclined to walk upstairs at night.

Thoughts?

Hmm, not sure but it doesn't sound like that is something that will stop them from coming to your room. I would maybe just try putting them back in their beds as soon as they come down. And just make it a rule.

Re: Room Locations

We have a cape with what sounds like the exact same set up as you only we use the extra room as a playroom. My kids are each upstairs in their own room. I am not comfortable with them being on the main floor by themselves, which is why we chose this setup.

I think they're going to take the walk regardless.

Long ago I came to the conclusion that if I lived in a mansion, my children would still sit next to me, stand in back of me or still sneak into our bed in the middle of the night.

Some things that have worked for us were M. couldnt wear a dress the next day if she wound up in our bed. The new one is J. can lose screen time if he does. But as I type this, they are both curled up next to me & I have to say, I wouldn't have it any other way....

It's not going to last forever but if you're really set on it, telll them they're going to be send back to bed so they have to sleep in their own rooms. Then when they come in, send them back.

Except for the part about not letting my child wear a dress, I could have written this myself!

Re: Room Locations

I'm actually glad you posted because we have the same house set-up except that DH and I are in one upstairs room and DC are in the other. The downstairs rooms are an office and a playroom.

I've been afraid to have them take over both upstairs bedrooms (at 2 1/2 and 5) and us move downstairs. I worry about the stairs and just being far from them.

But maybe after DD turns 3 I'll consider making the move.

I think no matter the set-up your kids will find their way to you in the middle of the night. I know mine would!
