Soaking dried chick peas?

When I read the directions it said you could do it in either cold water over night or boiling water for a few hours.
I did the cold water and they have been soaking for 2-3 days already and they are still hard and have a raw taste to them.
What am I doing wrong? And how can I fix it?

I believe you have to cook them after you soak them... Chat Icon

Soak them overnight, then put them in the crockpot, cover them with water and put on low overnight.

eta: or you can simmer them on the stove, friends who've done it prefer the crockpot...
