I live the next town over... the Marshall Slocum house is cute. It's in a good location - you can walk into town. I also really like the Admiral Fitzroy Inn on Thames Street and the Francis Malbourne House.

Let me know if you need any restaurant recommendations, etc.

I'll check out the other 3 places you suggested as well. Restaraunt Recs would be greatly appreciated. Also, we are thinking about hiking, biking, boating....something like that. Is the area good for stuff like that? From the pictures we've seen it looks beautiful and like something that we would want to do. Thank you!

What month are you headed there?

Most people tour the mansions when they go to Newport. They are lovely but you can't see them all in one weekend. The Marble house and the Breakers are quiet nice. I recommend one or both. That will eat up an entire day.

there are a bunch of places to rent bikes and mopeds /scooters right on Thames Street, which is the main strip.

As for boating, Newport is an island so there are lots of boats. You can go on a whale watching excursion year round. In the summer, there are even more tours on the water as well as sailing and kayak rentals.

For walking/hiking - I recommend the Cliff Walk. It's just over a 1 mile walk but it is on a cliff overlooking the famous historical mansions. A free way to see the mansions without breaking the bank.
Cliff Walk

for restaurants - we love Scales & Shells. All seafood, cash only, open kitchen, really great. On Thames Street.
22 Bowens is also good but pricier.
For good solid pub fare, burgers, etc - try Brick Alley Pub or the Red Parrot.
I also like Cafe Zelda. All of these places are on Thames Street.
If money is no object, dine at The Spiced Pear at the Hotel Chandler, along the Cliff Walk.

if you haven't checked it out yet, I recommend
Go Newport - great source for all things in the area.
