I don't know what to tell you, but I would think opting for a c-section when you don't really want one would be silly....you don't know that an induction would turn out that way! My water broke, but I was not progressing, so they gave me the pitocin as well...I had a great labor and delivery! Personally, I would try anything to avoid a c-section!

I was in the same exact situation. I chose #2.

However for me, the both the Cervidil and Pitocin did not do a thing, no cervix opening, no labor, no contractions. The baby started to show signs of distress so I was scheduled for a c/s.

But I know plenty of women who were given the cervdil and within hours saw some activity.
Everyone is different.

I think if you could and want to avoid a c/s you should.

I only dialated a fingertip so my Dr gave me the cervidil. I had contractions but only dialeted to 2cm. In the morning she gave me pitocin, it made my contractions terrible, my water did break but I only dialated 4-5cm. She could have let me wait it out but it could have taken another day the way this baby was moving and she didnt want any undue stress on either of us so she opted for a c-section. I tell you that I did not regret it at all. The recovery can be uncomfortable but nothing I couldnt handle with Motrin. I was back to my old self at about 2 weeks.

I had a very similar situation the first time around. I dont think inducing is a good thing but that is me. I scheduled the section and ended up just going into labor on my own. Still had to have a section cause my sons head was to big. Sometimes I think it still is.

My situation was different in that my water broke 5 weeks early, BUT -- besides that, I never actually went into labor. No dilation or effacement, so I ended up having to make your decision.

I started the Cervidil at 9PM, had another put in at about 2 AM, and finally started pitocin at 12 noon. From the time I started the Pit. I went really fast. Cole was born at 2:51 PM.

What I want to stress to you regarding induction is: get the epidural BEFORE starting the pitocin. A study was published in the NE journal this past winter that states the epidural DOES NOT slow down progress. My labor was a great experience from the epidural on. My OB insisted on the epi first (one of the reasons I really love her), even the catheter and internal exams were done after the epidural. There's no reason to suffer!
