unexplained infertility

The two most frustrating words i can think of right now

Chat Icon Chat Icon

no reason, nothing wrong with us, everything's fine blah blah blah

yeah, except the eggies and spermies aren't doing their little dance together for the past 14 months.

Sorry, i'm just super frustrated - we just finished our 4th IUI cycle and i got AF yesterday.
At what point do we just give up this sham of pretending that we're in control of anything?

should we even continue seeing the RE? i mean after the 5th or 6th IUI he said there's not much point continuing them.
We're not able to do IVF for money reasons and DH and i have discussed it and decided we don't want to stretch ourselves or try and scrape the money together for one session, only to have it potentially fail. We couldn't handle that

sorry.. super pity party here. just venting

sorry to hear that you are going through this Chat Icon we just started this journey & already feel frustrated & overwhelmed...

its really your decision if you want to continue or not. i know you have heard this dozens of times already but almost everyday i hear a story about a couple that when they stopped treatments & relaxed thats when they became preganant. I'm sure nothing anybody will say will make you feel better but i pray that you make the right decision Chat Icon

Re: unexplained infertility

There are many things they can test for to help you conceive. There are supplements, diet changes..etc..don't give up.

Please pursue another RE and get another perspective.

Why don't you try another RE? I don't know who your RE but I've heard that Dr. Braveman works miracles. I've heard that when all else fails people go to him and find success....

Re: unexplained infertility

I am with you for the unexplained part. I started to think maybe its my diet that is preventing something. I am going to see if there is a link btwn that nd me not having a baby yet. I found a Nutritionist that specializes so I made an appt. I think based on bw he can see if theres a link. Im going soon so if it does work I will let you know.

PS it did work for 2 girls that went so thats why I am trying it.

Re: unexplained infertility

I understand your frustration. I was dx with unexplained infertility and we have been on this roller coaster for 2 years. It is enough to drive someone batty. I almost HOPED they would find something wrong with me during my HSG, so I had something sustainable, something to fix.

Have you considered changing Re's? Maybe a fresh pair of eyes can offer a new perspective.

I wish you peace with any decision you make. Good luck.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Can i ask why people suggest going to another RE? I go to RS of NY now and i've always felt like they were really attentive to what's going on in my body.
I guess i just don't know what someone else would do differently. And i'm weary of all this. sorry, im extra defeated Chat Icon

Where is Dr. Braverman ? I'm in south nassau and can't drive too far since all my appts have to be 6:30 or 7 a.m. as i still have to get the train into the city after

Thank you for all the kind words ladies.. it truly does help to have people to share this pain with.

Re: unexplained infertility

I was a patient at Cornell..one of the top clinics in the country and I went to Dr. Braverman. He doesn't follow a cookie cutter approach for everyone and spends more time with you than any other doc I have seen.

He is doing things that no other RE is doing and he is one of the few physicians out there doing immune testing and treatment. Many times that is what hinders women from conceiving.

I'm confident in his abilities. When it wasn't working for me at Cornell I switched. Yes, it was hard to go to a different doctor but it's absolute insanity to keep doing the same thing over and get the same result.

Sometimes you have to change it up a bit to make a difference.

All doctors are not the same.

Exactly what she said. I wouldn't give up on the dream of a family and being a MOM, because ONE person/office could not help.

Paying a visit to another doctor is good because when you don't find success in one place you could use a second opinion. For example.... not all dentists are the same, right? I had an experience with a dentist that did a horrible job on me and had to switch doctors to get the job done properly. Both were dentists, but with different capabilities... Unfortunately, one can never be sure about the capabilities of their physicians until you try them out Chat Icon I was very nervous about choosing an RE in the begining because I needed to know that I wouldn't be wasting my time. But I did some research and found Dr. Braverman and decided to give it a shot. If I see that he cannot help me, I will move on to another doctor with good ratings. If you are interested on having a consultation with him he is in Woodbury and Bayside. His number is (516) 584-8710 or (718) 819-0077. You got nothing to loose - you can just have a talk with him and see what he says!

Re: unexplained infertility

I was diagnosed with unexplained and had tons of unsuccessful IUI's. I eventually did get pregnant with IVF & ICSI. The IVF cycle was diagnostic in a way because 1/2 of the eggs were left to fertilize on their own and 1/2 were done with ISCI. We got a much higher percentage of embryos from the ICSi batch which shows a fertilization problem that no test would have picked up.

We did a shared risk program where you pay for 3 cycles. It's a little more $$ than the cost of one cycle, but if it doesn't work you still have 2 more shots. The best thing was is you get refunded almost all of your money if you do not wind up getting pregnant. Maybe that is something you could look into. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
