WWYD? parent babysitting related...

OK, so baby # 3 is coming in October. When he/she comes, DS will be 2.5, DD will be 17 months. I work 3 days a week, and the kids are in daycare those 3 days from 7:30-4:30. Now, my parents have there house in LI on the market, and they plan on moving to CT, within 10 min. from us, by the summer. Before I even got PG, my mother had suggested that I take the kids out of daycare when they move up so she could watch them. My kids do great in daycare, I love the socialization aspect of it, and I adore their teachers. I truly feel like I hit the jackpot when I found this daycare. Anyway, now things are different. The rates at my daycare don't go down until kids turn 3, so having 3 kids there would be way over our budget. I don't want to quit my job. So, I was thinking- what if I asked my mom to watch the new baby, while the other 2 stayed in daycare? Once the baby turns 18 months or so, I could start him/her in daycare because by than my oldest will be 4 and the rates for him will go way down. I know my mom would be THRILLED to watch this baby, and I would offer to pay her, even though I know she would refuse. Do you think that sounds like I am "using" her for daycare since I had already declined her offer to watch my 2 older kids? I really just declined it because now they are so used to their routine, and they are not tiny babies anymore so I would rather have them in a social setting. I just feel like a user, even though that is not my intent. Chat Icon WWYD?

I think that plan would be fine. Don't feel like a user since she offeredChat Icon

I would just make sure tht you have a back up plan just in case their house doesn't sell in time (there is plenty of time, but you don't want to be in the lurch, you know?)Chat Icon Chat Icon

I agree with Kate.

I agree as well. Before I even got through half of what you wrote, my initial thought was...leave your 2 in daycare and have her watch the infant. Hope it works outChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would ask her if she's interested. If she's willing to do it, then I'd take her up on it but I'd be prepared that my child maybe out & about more than my kids at daycare. I think moving to a new area, she'll need to get out & make friends.
