I think she has ANOTHER ear infection

First, sorry I'm MIA these days! My new position is extraordinarly demanding and busy, but I'm loving every minute of it Chat Icon

As for Yael - at our last Ped appointment for her third ear infection in 6 weeks, he advised us that if she developed another, he was sending us to an ENT to discuss tubes Chat Icon Well, it's not even 2 weeks after her last round of antibiotics ended, and now she's pulling on her ear again Chat Icon

DH had terrible, just terrible ear problems as a baby and the Ped said she likely inherited it from him. My poor little sweet baby Chat Icon

Re: I think she has ANOTHER ear infection

Our DS has tubes. The first red flag for us was that whenever he had an ear infection and took a round of antibiotics, the fluid would never fully clear up. It would remain in the ear and then become a breeding ground for re-infection.

Another bad sign was three ear infections in the summer/fall, which is not "peak" season (though this does not apply to your DD)>

We had tubes put into DS's ears at 13 months. Not only did he never get another ear infection (he is now 2), but his hearing and balance improved. GL!!Chat Icon

Basically the same story for us. Ronan had back to back ear infections. Couldn't sleep, fussy, etc. I was SO NERVOUS to get the tubes and have him put under, but it was over in 5 minutes and within 2 days he was 100% better. He has slept great since then.

Re: I think she has ANOTHER ear infection

Is there a certain time that tubes are good to get? I had ear infection after ear infection when I was a kid, as did my older brother. We never had tubes in our ears, and we grew out of it.

My son has them quite often, but our ped ((same one I went to)) hasn't even mentioned tubes. I'm just curious why doctors opt for tubes so quickly when kids are so young and may out grow it? Of course if hearing is an issue, or something else that is detrimental later in life, I fully understand.

Any child that has constant fluid/infection is subject to hearing loss. The tubes are minimally invasive, extremely quick-from putting him out to him awake in recovery was less than 10 minutes. For my son-he was 14 months, he was not sleeping for naps or at night and was in pain constantly. He would have 2-3 comfortable days between ear infections and then it would start all over. Also there is a concern with overuse of antibiotics and becoming resistant. Those were the reasons we chose to do the tubes.

Thank you for explaining. That makes absolute sense if they are experiencing so much pain they would have trouble sleeping. I always thought DS had a ton of ear infections since it seems like its almost every month he is getting one. I can't imagine every few days. Glad he's doing much better now Chat Icon.

And sorry for hijacking ... I hope your little girl gets relief soon Chat Icon Chat Icon
