Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking

I think you mentioned that your DD is up there on the weight percentiles, right?

I know my Dr told me that it can be harder to walk the more weight they have to carry around, so that could be it too.

My ped told me that my sons would be late walkers, because they were so "chubby" and crawled late - they simply couldn't support their fatness lol - now at 15 months they are walking but also crawl all the time still.

I totally know the feeling, although Sasha is way behind that. She's not even pulling up. But I digress.

I would not worry AT ALL. It's SOOO hard to see other babies doing all these things that your child isn't-- but you have to just let her be her and do things when she's ready.

I was speaking to DH's aunt, who is a well-known pediatric neurologist, and we were talking about all these physical milestones-- and as long as they are doing certain things, they will get there.

TO put the walking thing in perspective, Michael Jordan didn't walk til he was like 17/18 months old (which is apparently unheard of in the African American community as most walk by a year statistically), and he also didn't speak til he was 3. I think he made out ok.

no reason to worry until 16 months. Chat Icon

My friends son didn't walk until he was 16 months old. Like you said, he could get around faster by crawling.

YUP, she's in the 95% percentile for weight and height, and I've heard that before too..too much weight to hold...the strange thing is she crawled pretty early...but did that for MONTHS befrore she started pulling up and cruising

I know it is hard not to worry because I'm in the exact same boat. DS has no interest really. He cruises, walks with push toys but majority of the the time that I take his hands to walk his legs become jello. Eventually they will walk.

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking

Both of my boys were late walkers, my youngest being the latest walker, at least 16 months old. I never pressured them and when they were ready they did. I also didn't hold them all the time, they just weren't ready to do it on their own yet.
I believe over 18 months is when there should be a cause for concern. Be patient, once they get moving you might wish they weren't Chat Icon

ETA: I noticed you mentioned she looks like a two year old. If she is in higher percentile for height and weight, which my youngest was, it might be the reason why she is not ready yet and has nothing to do with her "mental" capability. She just might not have combined her size and concept of walking to make it happen. She's young yet, and don't worry about what other children are doing. If she's mastering other key milestones, then she fine. So what, she doesn't walk yet! Hang in there...

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking

DS#1 did not walk until 18 months

I was pulling my hair out and so very concerned even though the ped told me not to worry

For our ped anything over 18 months was a sign of a problem

at exactly 18 months DS started walking

dont worry

For the first time tonight I DD just started walking! She will be 15 months on 3/5. I as well started to get worried since she was doing everything your DC is doing. Don't stress, it will happen.

My son (second DS) did not walk until he was 16 months old. I had a little baby on the way and thought that he would not be walking before she would be born. But, he started to walk one week before she was born. Also. he wasn't even walking with a push toy. She will be fine.

My DS wouldn't walk until he was 15 months. For him I think he just liked being carried/held. I knew he could walk, but he didn't want to. I wouldn't worry yet!!!Chat Icon

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking

since she is cruising and pulling to stand I wouldn't worry so much. It could be as late as 16-18 months...that's now abnormal Chat Icon

I wouldn't worry ds was 15 mos when started walking - if she is standing she is gaining strength. Enjoy this time :)

Re: OK I'm getting worried. re:not walking

I am sure it will happen soon. My DD started walking freely about 2-3 weeks ago, and she is one mth older than your DD.

From what you describe, she will do it any day now and never stop once she does it once.Chat Icon

Just a thought. I know you and your DD go out a lot. Maybe she is sitting more (car, carriage, playing, etc) and that's why she is doing it a bit later?
