DQ alpha match and HLA antigen

Just found out via bloodwork that these are our issues and reason for recurrent miscarriage. Any ladies experience this or have any additional info? I'm so overwhelmed. Protocol will be prednisone and IV intralipids.
Thanks.

Re: DQ alpha match and HLA antigen

Do you see Dr. B?

The HLA antigen is like your body rejecting a donated organ. It's a foreign object and your body's response is to get rid of it. I have something similar. Natural Killer cells. Supressing your immune system will turn of the body's response to that.

I'm doing intralipids, pred and Humira. I added the Humira even though it's not proven since I have Crohns which is an immune disorder.

Re: DQ alpha match and HLA antigen

I just found out this is the case for my DH and I as well Chat Icon

Does anyone have any experiences with this? I've tried doing some research online but it seems all the info I find is related to IVF patients with this problem and thats not the case for me. My issue is recurrent spontaneous abortions (hate that term Chat Icon )

Any feedback is appreciated as I am SO LOST right nowChat Icon

Yes, I've been on a quest to find out more info. I came across a couple of blogs of ladies who have this as well as some other women on fertility forums. It is very rare that's for sure. There are also some articles from medical journals that I found but difficult to understand. DH and I supposedly have a high match at 4.1. What was yours? Sending you FM.

It's not related to IVF. It's related to why you don't get pregnant or miscarry. Something in both of one of your chromosones is too close of a match and it can cause a problem getting and staying pregnant.

Thanks for the info!! Slowly Im beginning to understand this but I still have questions. Im hoping maybe I can speak to Dr B tonight. Once this is diagnosed, is it a guarantee that all pregnancies will end in m/c if proper treatment isnt done first? (the intralipids??)

From what I understand it's not a given but most likely if you have natural killer cells it will kill any foreign body that's there. The lab will test them against the treatment to see if your cells respond. That's what Dr. B told me. Mine responded so I will be doing the Intralipids.

Oh I didnt know that part. I thought you do the intralipids THEN they test to see if it worked. So theres a test before doing the intralipids? When are you doing your infusion? Then you just TTC and hope it works right away right? Sorry so many questions. He called me with all this info and of course I wasnt fully digesting it and I havent been able to reach him for all my follow up questions

from what Dr. B told me and what I remember, there was a test they did on my cells in the lab that showed that treatment would work. So he ordered the infusion. I'm not sure it's done all the time. I haven't scheduled the infusion yet.

interesting. Now I have another question to add to my list. I wonder if they did this test on me? im just so confused about all this. Ive done some research online and have read that not all doctors even agree on this. Dr B even told me himself that women can have healthy pregnancies under these circumstances. I mean the odds arent in my favor with 2 losses and no successes but still. Im really left wondering right now if these 2 losses were just flukes. Thats what my OB thinks.

Re: DQ alpha match and HLA antigen

99% of the time regular docs think it's chromosonal.

After Dr. B did my bloodwork he was sure it was because of my immune issues and the natural killer cells.

I'm a bigger challenge since I'm 42 so I'm going balls to the walls to get this remedied as quickly as possible.

I spoke to Dr B this afternoon. He did test me to see if the intralipids would work and he told me it would. I didnt know that you had to do the infusions even after you are pregnantChat Icon I thought it was a one shot deal. Now I just have to wait 2 cycles and I'll be on my way. (I havent gotten AF since my last d&c)

Is this Dr. Braverman you guys are referring to? I have a HLA match and DQ Alpha match with my husband and am about to start procedures as well. I did a lot of research on line and it seems that IVIG although more expense, is more effective than Intralipids. Any thoughts about this?

IVIG is not covered and could be about 5K per infusion.

You have to have a doctor who is a rheumatologist prescribe it.

My gastroenterologist didn't feel comfortable prescribing and I have an autoimmune diagnosed issue.

I'm also on Humira for Crohns and that has helped get my levels within normal range. That too has to be prescribed by a doctor that deals with immunology in some way.

Dr. B said everytime he has prescribed it, it has been denied so that won't work.

Re: DQ alpha match and HLA antigen

thank you so much for your reply! Is Dr. B, Dr Braverman? My doctor said that they found IVIG for $2000 a treatment but that it is generally more effective than the Intralipids. Did the intralipids work for you and are you pregnant now? Also did the intralipids give you side effects? I asked about Humira and my doctor said that they couldnt find any traces of Crohn's in my blood so he doesnt want to prescribe it. I will be on steroids though. Sorry for the many questions.

Yes, Dr. B is Dr. Braverman. I am not pregnant and I've done one cycle with him. I had substantial levels of TNF and NK cells and they are currently being retested.

Humira is also approved for Rheumatoid Arthritis. The manufacturer has assistance programs to help you financially if your insurance won't approve it.

But you really should consult with your doc.

There is literature out there with Humira and IVIG being a good combo. the intralipids have helped many women get pregnant.

I had no side effects from the Intralipids or any of the meds actually.

I was also on Prednisone.

Re: DQ alpha match and HLA antigen

thank you so much for getting back to me. Im with Dr. Braverman as well. I am about to start a cycle, starting with the Lupron for a week. I am not sure when i start the steroids. i guess i will find out tomorrow when i go there. I specifically asked about Humira because i read on line that its effective but he told me that it wouldnt work for me. I am happy to hear that you had no side effects, that gives me some hope Chat Icon. im very nervous about the IVIG to be honest, i hear it has loads of side effects.
