Fussy Baby - reasons???

Lately my DS, who will be 6 weeks tomorrow, seems to get fussy around dinner time for a couple of hours. It is not hysterical crying just fussiness. Will be happy in a certain position or something for a few minutes, cry, and fuss.

He is changed and full - is this normal? He just doen't seem content and I feel so bad.

How often does your DC cry for no reason or act fussy?

Re: Fussy Baby - reasons???

it sounds like he is trying to tell you that it's time for bed! i know it seems super early but my DS did the same thing - once we started putting him to bed earlier, around 6 or 6:30, the fussiness stopped.

it wasn't until he was 6 weeks old that he started giving me sleepy signs, they are hard to read sometimes Chat Icon

ETA: some people call this the witching hour, but for my DS, that was not the case

My DD's fussy tiime, or witching hour is usually around 6-6:30. I think it's perfectly normal.

He could be tired too, even though my DD's bedtime routine starts at 7pm (bedtime 7:30), she likes to take a little snooze around 6:00-6:15 for about 15 minutes, which is usually around the time she starts to fuss.

I remember around that time being lost as to why Sydnie was soooo cranky. It came out of nowhere. Then I read and heard about a very common phase around 6-8 weeks. I sware it was true! At around 9 weeks she was a different baby!

What kind of a bed routine can you do at 6 weeks? I feel if I were to put him down at that time, he would just scream.

How long do you let a 6 week old scream before you pick him up?

At 6 weeks old, not much of a routine! (My DD is 5 months old, so we do have one). However, I will say that we did start our bedtime routine at around 8/9 weeks and have been doing it ever since....that's when my DD started to STTN.

Basically our routine was the same then as it is now. Bath 30 minutes prior to bedtime and then we'd sit in the rocking chair and give him his bedtime bottle. Chat Icon Down he went.

It may seem like he'll scream... but you'd be surprised. I still find that when Jacen gets really fussy or cranky, as soon as i put him down for a nap or bedtime... he's much happier and goes to sleep within a minute or so.

Give it a try and see what happens!

Re: Fussy Baby - reasons???

DD had this as well, I also read that about the "6 week peak" when they get fussy or cranky. They mention this in regards to colic, I would never really consider DD a colicky baby, but she did have some doozies some nights where I cried right along with her because I had no idea what was wrong with her.

She still gets fussy but like what pp's said, try to see the drowsy signs, like yawning and rubbing their eyes, it's time to start soothing them to sleep before they get overtired and it turns into crank-city with the crying. I started doing with this DD and while I agree there is barely a "routine" with a newborn it has helped a bit. DD is now giving me 6 hour stretches at night and she's 8 weeks so it WILL get better!
