anyone have pugs?
My pug is 11 months old. He started losing his hair on a spot on his leg about 3 months ago. We took him to the vet, they did a scrapping and there was nothing. So the vet said maybe he was just licking that spot or something. So we started giving him a vitamin (looks like a vitamin E capsule that we pop and squeeze onto his food) that promotes healthy hair. Well the hair loss continued and now on his chest, just under his neck is a huge thinned out spot. Not bald but its so thin you see his pink skin. We bring him back to the vet for a check up they scrape again, still nothing. They say to to the vitamins for breakfast and dinner. Still....no change. His whole under belly is so thin and bald. Does anyone have any idea of what could be going on?
BTW - the vet also thought it could've been the frontline so they switched us to another brand (not heartz). There is ZERO improvement on his hair loss. It's just getting worse.
He is on Innova for puppies. The foods never been changed since we got him 7 months ago.

I actually have the same problem with my chihuahua. I refuse to watch her endure another scraping, they've done it like 3 times and nothing. A friend at work said his dog (another small dog maybe a yorkie?) has alopecia which had the same or similar symptoms so maybe our pups have that?? My dog is turning 2 and she has had this for quite a while, no real changes in food, gave her Revolution treatment sporadically but not recently... I too am at a loss.

I have 2 pugs and never had that problem, but my sister's dog which is not a pug had the same exact problem. The vet told her that he had allergies from the grass in the backyard, so they put him on some topical cream and it seemed to help for now. I would take him to another vet to see what they say. Good luck!!!

The vet told her that he had allergies from the grass in the backyard, so they put him on some topical cream and it seemed to help for now. I would take him to another vet to see what they say. Good luck!!!
I agree maybe switch vets I also have otis on Innova since he was a pup and now 5 years old still going strong on that dog food. He never had issues with his hair. But I do know that Pugs are very sensitive. He did have a few years ago allergies to the grass and they did give him a cream and shampoo to use. Do not use any shampoo that have fragance we use all natural bar soap that I order online for him.
You might also want to try a half of benadryl that works for otis when his allergies bother him the vet told us that it is ok. Might give your little one some relief.

Don't have a small dog but do have one with possible contact allergies with grass. Last summer he'd have red itchy spots on his belly. Vet said keep it clean and gave us a topical spray if it got bad. We use alcohol free baby wipes and just wipe his stomach and underarms if he's been laying in the grass outside. Hasn't been a problem in the winter so I think that might be it.
Otherwise, we provide fish oil and vitamin e for dry skin because the bare spots Brinkley had were due to biting & scratching himself.
I hope they find the source and give you good suggestions on how to make him all better.

I have a pug but I never had that problem. How long have you been going to this vet? I am wondering if maybe you should get a second opinion. Good Luck

I agree sounds like allergies... My dog had a thinning spot too.. we went to a vet who specializes in herbs. changed her food and the spot is not gone.
