BF moms who pump..?

How many ounces does/did your 7 week old eat??

Dr said DS should have 3-4 oz. every 3-4 hours, but it does not seem to satisfy him. Should I give him more? I don't want to overfeed him.

So I was wondering how many ounces your DC's eat??

TIA

If you think he is hungry, feed him! I don't remember how much DS was eating at that point, but he ate smaller meals more often. (In fact, he never ate more than 3-4 ounces in a sitting until he was over 10 months old Chat Icon )

Things always change in their habits. If I remember correctly, there is also a growth spurt around 8 weeks. That will make him want more.

Re: BF moms who pump..?

I've been feeding him 2 oz. every 2 hours or so, depending on his naps. Then at night, 3 oz. every 3 hours or so. (Funny how the # of ounces almost equals how long he sleeps..wish I could give him 10 oz so I could know what it's like to sleep that long again Chat Icon Chat Icon )

But if I give him 3 oz. during the day, he's looking for more 2 hours later..so I'm thinking smaller, more frequent feedings might be better??

He went thru a growth spurt at 6 weeks..he was feeding every 45-an hour for five days Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sleep will come soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I fed on demand, so I never really paid much attention to the clock. Every kid is different. See what works for you. Even though my DS barely ate more than 3 oz per sitting, he was sleeping through the night fairly early. So there is hope! Chat Icon

I would feed him more-you can't overfeed an infant-think about BF babies fed on demand...you never know how much they're gettingChat Icon

Re: BF moms who pump..?

I recomend a site called Kellymom for this kind of question. I have exclusivly bf both my ds and my youngest is 7 months old. I pump out 3 oz bottles and the rule of thumb is an ounce an hour with bf babies. So checkout that site and see if it helps.

Re: BF moms who pump..?

Anytime either one of my DDs would finish bottles completely, we'd add another ounce for that feeding the next time.

The range of *whats normal* is pretty broad. For example, by 4.5 month old is now polishing off 7oz bottles of BM. In the meantime, my 21 month old didn't start doing that til she was 9 months old.

You baby is still just an itty-bitty, so establising a schedule is really hard- but it WILL happen eventually.

Congratulations!!!!Chat Icon

Re: BF moms who pump..?

Sasha will be 7 weeks on Tuesday...

When I give her a bottle of BM, it's 4oz in the middle of the night (I guess because there is more time in b/t feedings at that point).

If I need to do during the day, we do 3 oz. That seems to be what works for her. And based on how long she is nursing, compared to when I pump-- she is probably getting about the same when I nurse. Prob more in the AM since there is more milk since DH does the bottle in the middle of the night. Like, I am waiting for her to wake up now cause I am LEAKING! Chat Icon

ETA-- I feed her on demand during the day, and that averages about every 2 hours... Sometimes it's 1 to 1.5 hours, sometimes 3, etc. She does 3 to 4, even 5 hour stretches at night though.

this was my theory... ds at 7 weeks was drinking 60 ozs a day... (which is why he was on cereal at 6 weeks).... my theory was that if someone starved you how would that make you feel....
