Clomid....good/bad??

Hi girls!,

Since my cycle has been crazy going from 31-35-42 days since my 5month MC in January, my RE is considering putting me on Clomid, to help me ovulate..We've had no PF success and we've been trying for 5 months.....I want to talk to my OB.GYN as well, since I'm not too familiar with Clomid...i dont i like putting drugs in my body if i dont have to....

can you let me know your advice/experience with clomid?

thanks....

Re: Clomid....good/bad??

I have been on Clomid for 2 cycles now since we are dealing with male factor IF. I didn't have any real bad side effects. If you are going to go on the Clomid though, make sure you are monitored closely by your Dr.

After the first Clomid (50mg) dosage, we noticed I developed a cyst, but since I was not prone to them, my RE told me that it was most likely from the over-stimulation of my ovaries. It eventually dissolved (one cycle) & this past time on it, I had no problems at all.

Are you ovulating?

Your cycle doesn't sound THAT crazy to me. It's normal for cycles to range in length - not everyone will have a ___day cycle always.

For me, I've ovulated as early as CD 15 and as late as CD 26 - but my LP is always consistently 14 days. I still consider myself to have regular cycles, since each cycle I ovulate and then get AF with a normal LP.

i would honestly think that you should post this on IF - as the girls there have more likely had much more experience than some of the girls here....

good luck!

Re: Clomid....good/bad??

Sounds to me you are ovulating, but your cycle sometimes tend to be on the longer side (31, 35 days, isn't too off the mark, so I wouldn't say you are irregular). Even on Clomid, I still had very long cycles.

If you have questions about Clomid, continue to talk to your RE and not your OB about it. Your RE is the specialist, they will also monitor you the way you should be monitored on Clomid, OBs will not.

the OB's dont check on your when on the RE? i thought they would as well...how does the RE monitor you?

i cant tell when i'll be O'd since i can never count back 10 days from my next AF....i mean the only way is for the RE to do an internal US...which is not so comfy...i'm not sure what i should do... i'll talk to my OB on wed (when she's in to see her advice)

how long where your cycles?

No, once I switched to the RE I did not go back to my OB until I got pregnant and released from the RE. While on Clomid you need to be monitored. The RE will monitor you through bloodwork and sono's. An OB will not do this. They will just give you the Clomid and send you on your way. The RE's sole purpose is to get you pregnant.

Re: Clomid....good/bad??

I will be starting round three of clomid next week. The only side effect I get is being moody and feeling bloated at times. Since starting the clomid I've been very regular, now we are just waiting to get pregnant. Talk to your OB, I'm sure they would not put you on a drug if they didn't feel it would work. Good luck

Are you under the care of an RE or just your OB? You really should be monitored closely on Clomid. And as I mentioned above the majority of OBs do not do this. There is a lifetime max you can take clomid, I believe it's 12 cycles, but you should not take it for more than 6 cycles. One of the side effects of Clomid if you are on it for a prolong period of time is that it is known to thin your uterine lining which would make it impossible for a pregnancy to stick should you get pregnant on it.

Have you tried using an ovulation predictor kit? That sounds like your answer. Clomid is used for women who usually don't ovulate, such as myself.

I hope this won't come across as nasty, but I had to Chat Icon at the internal ultrasound comment. Something very similiar has to happen in order for you to get pregnant in the first place... Chat Icon And if you think an internal is uncomfortable, you are going to LOOOOOOVE being pregnant!

As I said, not trying to be nasty at all...just thought it was an interesting perspective.

I have to agree with the OP that having an internal sonogram is NOT the most comfortable or pleasant experience. Having a stranger insert a wand up there is not something I think you can compare to BD'ing. Chat Icon

As for the original question, I just started with the RE myself and I'm also trying to gather info on Clomid. I'm very worried about the moodiness side effect and the possible long term effects. I really want to avoid taking Clomid at all costs. If you do need to go on it, it seems like very close monitoring is essential, so I think the RE would be the best person to see.

Re: Clomid....good/bad??

I am heading into my 2nd cycle of Clomid, because the first didn't work for me. The first time around I had alot of dizziness and one major mood swing that lasted pretty mu an entire day. It was bearable, though.

Re: Clomid....good/bad??

I started my first does of clomid last night (100 mg) cycle day 3-7 and I go back friday for an internal.

I was supposed to have an HSG tomorrow but I have a very heavy AF (sorry tmi) after the provera so I will go for an HSG on the 16th instead.

I could def. feel some soreness in my ovaries today but I am not sure if it was the clomid or AF cramps but other than that no side effects at all today.
