Re: WWYD? Invited to a wedding we are not going to

If it was a family member, I would def send a check, but since it is a co-worker & someone you have never even met, I wouldn't send them anything & wouldn't feel obligated to either.

Like some of the other posters said, I would still send a small gift. There is definitely no need to spend a lot of $$.

i could never not send a gift. i usually send $100 to a wedding we don't attend, even if we're not close with the person or are low on funds. we've done this many times, especially for out of town weddings.

I would write 0 and I would not send anything. If you don't go IMO you don't need to give a gift. I never expected anything from people that didn't go to our wedding.

ditto unless you had close ties to these people which seems like you dont- so dont worry i had family decline and they never sent me gifts it wasnt a big deal..... Chat Icon

Re: WWYD? Invited to a wedding we are not going to

If I can't attend I put a 0 in the number attending, usually say I'm sorry I can't be there and if I have a valid reason (last time I was actually going to be in Florida) and I send a check for like $50, although I don't think its necessary. A few of my no's gave gifts, some didn't.

No, you don't HAVE to buy a gift, but I would. I didn't get gifts from many of the people who didn't come to my wedding and honestly never even thought about it until today... so I doubt they'd be offended or anything if you didn't send something. That said, if I were invited to someone's wedding and couldn't go for whatever reason, I'd still send a gift, as I think it's the appropriate thing to do.

If you don't want to or can't afford to, then don't. If you can afford to send a little something, i think it would be nice, especially since this is someone your DH works with.

ITA. No one that responded 'no' to my wedding sent anything, but I personally always send a small gift if I respond no.

I agree with the above posts, I would either send a small gift or I would even send my DH to work with a card and small gift like a bottle of wine. When DH and I got married a few of his coworkers cam by his desk and gave him small gifts, and they weren't invited to the wedding. Since your DH works with him, I think it's best you send something.

I agree.

You may not know them and don't want to send a gift but your DH does. So you are putting him in a situation that makes him look cheap if you don't send a gift.

exactly

if there are only 5-6 co-workers and they all get a gift, except you, your DH will look cheap and it will get around

People talk.

ETA: OR - have your DH buy him dinner or drinks, then you don't have to buy a gift

Re: WWYD? Invited to a wedding we are not going to

I invited several co-workers who were not able to come to my wedding and I didn't expect a gift from them at all. If you never socialize with these people I don't think you need to send a gift. But if you were to send a small gift, I wouldn't send a check. I would send something small but useful from the registry or a gift card. HTH :)

ITA. Here's how I learned that people who send a "no" response send checks:
