RE Advice- also posted on TTC board thx

Just curious.. i really do like my office i switched to since my miscarriage... this office specializes in fertility they say..but i keep hearing all of you say to go to a RE. What do they do different?

So far my office figured out I ovulate too late, my uterine wall does not thicken and my husbands sperm is a 4 and should be a 5 (I don't know what that means). I did the post coital and that came out fine..so i feel they did all the right tests to start

They started me on clomid and Estrogen this cycle and I went in before i started it for sonos then after i started it to size my follicles and to tell me when i was ovulating.. the dr said i should ovulate last wed so i waited to do it then..i tested the day before and got a pos OPK but wanted to save the sperm so they would be stronger for the next day when i woke that morning it said i neg for O.. i literally broke down sobbing..but we did it anyway just in case. ... then last week I went in for blood work to confirm the O.. now is this what the RE does or do they do more?

The next step they have us doing is going to the urologist on tuesday so i guess i will learn more of about the SA...

I just don't want to be going through all of this if they are not doing the right things.

thx ladies

I'm not sure what tests your "office" has done. Are they an OB or something else?
An RE will run bloodwork on cycle day three, test to make sure your tubes are clear, generally do bloodwork on you and your DH to make sure there are no issues in regards to antibodies, do sonograms to make sure everything looks good re: your ovaries/uterus.

Usually an RE will be more agressive regarding IUI's and timing. They want to get you PG asap.

It's a comfort issue also, if you are happy where you are and just starting out then you may want to stay there. A good OB will know when it's out of their hands and refer you to an RE.

Traditionally, OBs don't treat or dx infertility. That is the job of an RE (one who specializes in the chemistry of the reporductive system) My OB (who I adore) referred me immediately to an RE. She wouldn't even prescribe clomid.
