Neocate users. Question for you.PLS help.

Kevin had problems with Enfamil Lipil and the soy so the dr switched him to Nutramigen. Once we started Nutramigen, he developed this nasty diaper rash which actually left cuts on his skin down there.
We are treating the area with 3 different prescription creams the dr gave us for the past 3 days but I haven't seen any improvement yet. Kevin is ONLY on formula yet his stool colors vary. (Sometimes they are pea soup green.)I have even seen a bit of blood in it which I believe is probably from his cuts. Anyway, how do you know if your baby has a problem with Nutramigen? Did your baby have the same symptoms? The dr wants us to try the Neocate formula now and see if there is an improvement.

dd has been on Neicate since she was 3 weeks old - she's now 11 months.

She was spitting up and had terrible diarrhea with every formula we tried - the same ones you mentioned. Since on Neocate she has no problems.

A lot of insurances cover Neocate. You can go through Apria Healthcare, their number is 877-536-8372. They deal woith your ins co directly and ship the formula right to your house. FM me if you have any questions.

Good luck!!

Neocate is a lifesaver in our house!!! It gave us a whole new child! DS would cry 24 hrs a day from the pain of the milk allergy. After trying 7 different formulas we went to Neocate and had a HAPPY baby! So I would definitely try it. Also our ins covered it so it was delivered to our house FREE every month!!!!!

If you have any other questions FM me!

My son had obvious blood in his stool from a milk protein allergy. He spit up a lot and was difficult to feed. We just thought he was fussy. Nutramigen helped a little, but there was still blood, so we went on Neocate and it was like we had a new kid. He ate no problems, rarely spit up, no more blood.

Good luck!

If your doctor is saying to try the Neocate, go with it. In looking back, you will know if there was a problem with Nutramigen. We described DS symptoms and the Dr. knew. Also, DS tested positive for blood in his stool. He is now on Elecare, which is another brand but doctors consider it to be the same as Neocate.

The dr isn't sure if he needs the other formula. He didn't have this awful diaper rash with cuts in his skin until Nutramigen. He still has some exzema on his forhead which they say is cradle cap but looks like exzema if you ask me. I just want to be sure I am doing the right thing. Did you see blood or send the stool to the lab?

We saw blood but there was also microscopic droplets of blood in other stool samples that didn't have obvious blood in them. My doctor's office was able to do the tests in their office.

Eczema can be a symptom of a food allergy. The most frequent ones that have eczema are milk, wheat, soy, codfish and 2 others that I can't remember right now. My son only tested positive for milk but he gets horrible eczema around his mouth at least once a month, and we have completely eliminated milk from his diet.

Have you changed diaper brands? When we tried out Huggies my son got an awful diaper rash and it didn't go away until we switched back to Pampers.

Have you had the stool tested for blood since you have been on Nutramitgen? I would do that asap. If there is then I would switch right away to Neocate. Check to see if your insurance company covers it because it is very expensive.

Re: Neocate users. Question for you.PLS help.

I think right now we have Luvs diapers. I've been using those and Pampers for a while. Its just strange how he broke out with bad diaper rash after starting Nutramigen. It could be because the formula caused very loose poops for the first few days which they say is normal. But its not like his skin turned red. His skin got cuts all over down there. Some are actual cuts and some are little dots of open skin. I guess I should just bring a diaper in one morning and have it tested. the only thing is that when I do see a drop of blood, its from the cuts and how will I know if there is any blood that isn't coming from the cuts when they test?

If they find blood throughout the sample they will know it's an internal issue. Chat Icon

Re: Neocate users. Question for you.PLS help.

We are very familiar with the exzema food allergy thing since both my other children had exzema and allergies as well. But this baby seems to have the worst exzema of all. He keeps getting breakouts on his forhead and he is so uncomfortable. He keeps scratching his head.
Went to the store today to pick up Neocate and of course, my insurance doesn't cover it. Now I have to call them tomorrow and see if they will approve of my particular case.

Re: Neocate users. Question for you.PLS help.

Anyone else have the same issues as my son:
Spitting up more and more.
Exzema
Bad diaper rash with cuts on his skin
Uncomfortable

And did you child seem to want the bottle, not want the bottle and then want the bottle all within minutes?
Wondering if thats because the formula makes him uncomfortable.
