Theoretical salary of a stay at home mom: $138,095

The price of a mom: $138,095
A new report assigns a salary to a stay-at-home mother, based on the jobs she does in a normal week.

Re: Theoretical salary of a stay at home mom: $138,095

I think that is kind of ridiculous.

"According to the Salary.com survey, stay-at-home moms work a 92-hour week, with more than half the workweek spent in overtime.

Working moms, meanwhile, logged more than nine hours of "overtime," with an average 49-hour "mom" work week -- on top of their full-time paying jobs."

So SAHMs work more "overtime" hours than working moms? Chat Icon I'm not a mom at all, but I think they have some crazy inaccurate methods of figuring the salary.

I agree. It is such a misconception that working moms are just working all the time. I NEVER get an answer back from sahm's when I say that wohm's get weekends, vacations, personal days, sick days, half days, holidays. These times are 99% spent with their children. Not all of us work alot. I only work 37.5 hours a week. I don't even do 40 hours!
Just like a job, some days are easy and some days are hard. I think that number is very high especially if you have kids in school and stay home.

as a working wife- with out childern

I find that number insulting on so many levels- and I find what it implies insulting

I work 40 + hours a week
I am responsible for 99% of the stuff around the house
I am repsonsible for food shopping and all other household needs

and 90% of the time I am also my husbands Personal Assisatant- call this person, do this, go here, pick up that, etc

I don't see it getting better when we have childern either

ITA with you. I had to do the same things (minus the kids) before I had children.

I don't think its insulting one bit. Maybe cause I'm a SAHM who also works 20 hrs/week...the reason it is not insulting is that it is theoretical...obviously being a mom will NEVER come with a paycheck! And i don't care if you're a SAHM or a WOHM! Being a mom in general is one of the most draining "jobs" in the world. The best job, but tiring nonetheless and it does not come with a paycheck.

And when you are in the position where you are taking care of this person all day, every day without money to show for it, it is nice to see articles that acknowledge that ithe salary is commensurate with how you feel it should pay, If that makes sense..

However...I do NOT agree with certain points of the article. We are all "psychologists" to some level, with or w/out kids! I just found it to be entertainment.

They are just trying to say that if the position were paid, that is the number that it would pay. I think it's to be taken in a light hearted manner....

I think the number is LOW- for everything a mother and wife is expected to do and be- that's part why I find it insulting

in posting i certainly didn't mean for anyone to get offended. i thought it was an interesting article and thought some of you might as well. Like previous poster, I found it to be entertainment.

I don't agree with everything in there - and certainly anyone can take issue with how they calculated things... as issue could be taken with anything that is calculated on a theoretical basis.

anyhow - just wanted to make it clear i didn't intend to insult anyone working, non-working, moms or not!
