Random question...

I have to pee ALL THE TIME, so I started thinking...when you go into the hospital and you're sitting there for hours waiting to dilate, etc....do the Dr.s put a catheter in or something? I can't imagine having to get out of bed everytime I have to pee...

Re: Random question...

I got a catheter after I got the epidural...not expecting that, but I didn't feel it. I don't think that's the case for everyone though.

Re: Random question...

You get up to pee...and to be honest with you I dont really remember getting up all that often either...

I guess with an epi you would have a catheter....

Re: Random question...

I don't remember drinking at all (after being admitted) and so maybe that's why I didn't have to pee so much. I only went 3 times while I was in L&D for 7 hours....and I went CONSTANTLY during PG (several times an hour). Not really sure why! Good question/observation! Chat Icon

I got up to pee. They let you as long as you don't feel "pressure" to push.

Re: Random question...

I had to get up every time I had to pee. I didn't get an epidural though.

Re: Random question...

I had natural childbirth so I did get up to pee but I don't really remember actually having to pee that often. I'm sure I peed all over the place pushing DD out but at that moment you don't even think twice about it.
Can't help much with if you get a catheter or not.

Re: Random question...

I'm assuming that I got the catheder later, but I guess I went as soon as I got there and then I wasn't allowed to have anything to drink - only ice chips - that may have helped the no peeing aspect?

Re: Random question...

I had a c/s and they put in the catheter after the spinal.
I forgot they even had it in and I was wondering why I didnt have to get up to pee after peeing so frequently for the last few months!

Catheter after the epidural, otherwise, you get up to pee.

Me too- I know this makes me weird, but I loved having the catheter- prior to the epi getting up was such a pain because I'd been immediately hooked up to the monitor and the blood pressure cuff because of my BP. I didn't get up for hours and I was able to sleep for a little while.

Re: Random question...

i was induced and had cervadil. I think i was able to get up to pee, but after the epi i needed a cath. i couldnt push the baby out b/c my bladder was too full, once they hooked me up, she came out.

Re: Random question...

I had to pee a couple times before I got an epi at 4cms. Once the epi went in, so did a catheter.
