Ok, so Empire Carpet bites....any reliable recommendations? - UPDATE

To make a long story short....

Tuesday we had an appt at the house we're going to be closing on next week. We were given a window of 7-9pm. We called twice - finally by 9:30pm we decided to call AGAIN. This time we finally get the guy...it's too late he's not coming...

Now, keep in mind we live in Western Nassau - practically bordering Queens and the home we're buying is in Ronk. Ok...also keep in mind we do not own the house yet - the realtor and the owner were wonderful enough to let us come in for 3 hours!

Ok...fast forward now to Wednesday. The realtor again - AMAZING...said she'd be there for this guy to measure at 10am. He arrived 11:30...OMG!Chat Icon He got all the measurements and then made an appt with my DH for 8pm. 8pm came and went - he got to our house at 8:30. He only brough a "few" samples...of course NOT what we wanted. He then made an appt for tonight...

Ok, so here it is...6:20, he was suppose to be here at 6. He just called to "ummm...make it another night" At that point DH hit his boiling level.

Needless to say...unless this guy can really WORK those numbers and show us AMAZING carpet...we're going elsewhere...

Sooo...my question is who? Who's got a great price, quality, etc. on carpet AND...does great with installation?
(We hate "walking" carpet.)Chat Icon

ETA - UPDATE: Sooo... He ended up making it over at 8:15pm that night - AND He brought his girlfriend??? WT?! Who goes on business to someone's house and brings their girlfriend??? Then, he gave his "best price"...take it or leave it, etc. By this time it's 9:30 and I'm not even thrilled about the carpet. DH was trying to negotiate with him and he came down a little more. Needless to say by this time I'm just wiped out - three long night waiting for this guy - enough was enough. I said, "We don't need to make a decision now, so we'll call you." He got very upset... Said we need to make a decision soon because he's going to CancunChat Icon

Fast forward to last night...we went to G Fried in Westbury do to some of the recs we rec'd on here - OMG Chat Icon LOVE them! LOVE the selection! They had sooo many carpets to choose from! DH & I were in Carpet heaven if there is such a thingChat Icon We had the MOST AMAZING salesmen! He was patient, very knowledgable and well, he just blew us away. He never once bad mouthed competition - where the other guy couldn't say enough horrible things about HD. It was just too much.

We're having G Fried head out with measurements, then he's going to work it out so there's less waste - why pay for carpet we don't need! AND they can install right when we need it.

Thank you all for your recs! G Fried is FANTASTIC!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Call Karl from Bay Carpet. He will bring you samples and he's quick. We used him for our whole house and he's great. His number is 917-560-5477. He's in Sayville.

Re: Ok, so Empire Carpet bites....any reliable recommendations?

I have bought lots of carpet in my life and have never heard of such crap. Fire them.

We went to Empress Carpet on Rt 110. They were very impressive and gave us a nice price. They have been to our house 3 times for different rooms and always were on time and professional.

Lori-Fire their AZZ!

Welcome to the joys of homeownership. They won't all be that way, don't sweat it.

What are some average prices for carpeting? We just had a flood and now need to re-carpet the entire upstairs! Chat Icon

I don't have any suggestions on alternate carpet companies, but you should complain about the amount of time this guy made you wait and then cancelled. I've heard good things about Empire from other people, and this guy is giving them a bad name!

I agree. We used Empire Carpet for our home and were on time and worked diligently for us!

I'd call and complain to management.

As for other carpet places - my IL's used Carpet Depot by JCpenney Homestore by Smithaven Mall and they had a great selection and $$.

We had a great experience with Empire two years ago. They installed carpeting and hardwood floors for us.

Fast forward to this year when we needed new carpeting in our MBR and we had the exact same experience as you, Lori. The cancelled our appointment twice.

I'm not sure where you are moving to, but we ended up getting our carpet from Pat's in Bay Shore and they we excellent!

Re: Ok, so Empire Carpet bites....any reliable recommendations?

We used Empire once and they were great but I've heard it all depends on the sales person you get.

My parents live in Queens on the boarder of Nassau and swear by G.Fried on Old Country Road in Westbury. The guys there were always willing to bargain on prices when they did more than one room and the installations were really quick and clean.

My parents always buy their carpet from Montauk Carpet in Farmingdale. They buy from the remnants a lot.

Re: Ok, so Empire Carpet bites....any reliable recommendations?

Empire is EXTREMELY expensive. We asked for a quote for laminate floors in a few rooms-10,000. We ordered the floors from lumber liquidators and paid 3,000 including install(we got an installer from the pennysaver. )

I used G Fried 5x already in our house and plan on using them again soon. I have had nothing but great experiences with them. My parents have been using them for years as well. Always prompt to deliver and measure. I used the one on old county road.

Sorry to hear about your issues with Empire. Dh and I bought the "low end" carpet for our bedroom and the second bedroom and it looks beautiful.
