Yet another Home Invasion Spinoff: You hear a noise and wake DH...

You hear a noise in another part of the house in the middle of the night.

Do you wake DH to go investigate? What do you expect him to do? Do you go investigate?

What is his reaction?

Here's my story:

The other night I heard a noise downstairs. I am unusually extra nervous about home invasions at the moment because

A. recent incidents in the news

B. We just installed bigger windows and a french door on our first floor so I feel more "exposed".

C. One other security related reason that I won't divulge because of above-stated paranoia

So I wake DH. Now he's always cranky if I wake him from a deep sleep but hey, it was only midnight. He looks at me and goes "Yeah, and what do you want me to do?"

I answer "Send Meiko out to investigate!"

So he reluctantly gets up, I follow him, and so does our sleepy dog. Of course it turns out to be nothing but as DH comes back to bed he is all grumbly and pissy.

He's actually MAD at me because I sent him out "unarmed" to check for intruders and "do what?" as he put it... "get attacked?"

What SHOULD I have done? Let him continue to sleep? Gotten up and investigated MYSELF? Call the cops when it could've just been a racoon?

So what does/would your DH do? And I would love to hear from the DHs on the board on this one

I must be fearless because I would/have just woken up and I would just go see what the noise is. lol

I'd absolutely wake my DH.....But I would probably be right behind him with a bat in 1 hand and cell phone in the another ready to dial 9-1-1!

No way am I waiting in the room by myself!

My DH has a gun--so i expect him to grab it and inspect said noise.

I would have armed us both (with the aforementioned weapons in the other spinoff) LOL

but I'm the "brawler" in the family, so maybe I should just go alone.

ftr, my dh would have said the SAME thing.

Well I'm impressed to hear from all these tough girls... since I'm no longer allowed to wake DH if I hear a noise, can I call one of you?

I hear everything, DH doesn't. I would get the same exact reaction from my DH as you got from yours.

I am so waking DH up if I hear a noise. I'll tell you a funny story. We live downstairs and our landlords live upstairs. They were away on their HM and one night, prob around 3:30am, I hear someone walking around upstairs. DH grabbed his Louiseville Slugger baseball bat and went outside to go see what was going on upstairs. I locked myself in our bedroom with the phone so I could call 911 if I needed to. Turned out to be my landlords brother bringing a girl back from the bar!! The landlords didn't tell us they left him a key. We all still laugh about it. But hey, at least they know no one is going to break into their house without DH beating him with old Louie!

When I lived at home I had my Dad's guns in my closet and a hammer in my nightstand next to me just in case. I'm such a chicken sh*t!

I send my dh to go investigate. He walks out there "unarmed". He always says that someone has a death wish if they break into our house...

I have woken DH up before when I have heard something. I never send him to investigate because I don't want to be left alone.

ETA...this is why I miss living at my mom's house...she has a scary loud attack dog

As long as my dogs aren't barking, I will investigate on my own. If they start to bark, I wake DH up.

Just asked DH.

He said that he would want me to wake him immediately. He would go & investigate.

He'd want me to stay behind. I probably would because the kids are right next to us & I would have a phone.

eta. He said he wouldn't be angry with me at all for waking him up - better safe than sorry. However he is annoyed that I interrupted Curb Your Enthusiasm to ask him the question.

More than once in the past DH has sat up when I woke him or the alarm went off, grabbed his sneaker as a weapon and ran down the stairs.

unless our alarm was going off I don't think I'd be too worried, but I'd probably wake DH. He just built a secret gun cabinet on his side of the bed. I pity the fool that meets up with my DH in our house, currently he has a shotgun that was used in the movie the terminator by arnold in his new spot. not only could he take out a crowd from around a corner but most of my house would be blown to bits.
We have an agreement that if we are ever victims of a home invasion, we shoot first & ask questions later.
This nonsense with these jackazzes busting into homes & terrorizing people in the middle of the night has got to stop.

I think it's important to have a phone in the bedroom, first off. Secondly, we used to have a bat next to the bed (don't ask and I don't know where it went...) but I wake up DH.

More than likely I will hear something first not DW. I will arm myself and make sure DW is in the bed. If someone is in the house I will discharge my firearm without hesitation...

honestly, I think DH would hear it before I did. he is not a light sleeper, but for some reason, if he hears anything out of the norm, he jumps out of bed.

eta: as for what he would do about a possible intruder.... well, he's licensed. if you know what I mean

I would have waken him up, then gone myself. I have found out as manly as DH is, he is a bit of a baby. So he would probably be standing BEHIND me saying "Swing away"

i wake FH up when I hear stuff

he is going to get a gun license after we get a house but right now his stash of weapons would probably just confuse the would be attacker. . .

currently, he has a medieval SPIKED club next to his bed. . .i am pretty sure he expects vikings to come attack us in the middle of the night. . .

He also has a blow dart gun and those throwing stars. . .

i think i am supposed to be in charge of the blow dart gun in case something happens
