Yay, yay, yay!!! That was my favorite part when I was a kid!! Running out onto the front porch screaming "Happy New Year!" at the top of my lungs banging on pots - ringing the cowbell (we lived in Babylon, don't know why we had a cowbell).
Yay especially for your kid!!! Yay as an adult as well.

I've done it a few times as a kid if we would spend NYE at one of my friend's house but it was never a tradition for me.

DH wants to know why I would want to possibly upset neighbors with an obnoxious celebration.
My kids, whatever, it is one night a year.

My parents neighborhood is filled with elementary aged kids. They all go outside, set off sparklers, legal fireworks (in MD) and bang pots and pans. All in good fun!!!
As an adult, I just drink and kiss.

We ALWAYS did it. My block had tons of kids, we would run outside banging pots and pans and my neighbor did fireworks. We loved it and looked forward to it every year.
We won't be doing it ourselved till the kids are older, but doesn't bother me at all.

We usually do. This year I don't think we are b/c we are staying home and both girls will prob be sleeping. We just got DD#2 to STTN...don't want to ruin it

I say Nay but that's only because we use noise makers and I cringe at the thought of banging my Calphalon pots together. LOL
But, I wouldn't be mad at neighbor's doing it. It's the new year!

I wouldn't mind at all if my neighbors did it because I'm up anyway & it's new years! I don't do it though because I don't like loud noise that close to me... can't stand noisemakers, etc. (I know I'm an old fart  ) I just have a drink & hug everyone.

EVERY YEAR since I was a kid.
We dont even do the "store" noisemakers. No need for it. I grew up banging away and now my daughter does as well. Tradition..I get the biggest pot with the biggest spoon..the more noise, the better!! LOL

we did it last year with some friends and we were waiting to see if others came out...nope we were the only ones screaming and banging pots and pans on the block!
We'll probably do it again tonight lol
