WWYD? 20 month old Climbing out of crib

I am trying to decide if I should convert their beds to toddler beds or if I should get the crib tent. The both think it is a game of climbing out and they greeted us in our room this morning.

At what age did you put your dc in a bed? How hard was the transition.

My first went into a twin bed at 17 months old. My second went into a twin bed at 15 months old. Both had a great transition and slept better in a twin bed then in a crib.


I had a crib tent on my younger ones crib due to her sister climbing in with toys. I was nervous something would happen to my youngest. She ended up hating the tent around 14 months old. She would scream for long periods of time instead of sleeping and the minute I took her out of the crib she was fine, she would also cling for dear life when I tried to put her in the crib with the tent on. Since my oldest would still climb in her crib I had no choice but to move her into a twin bed at 15 months old for her safety. She finally started sleeping through the night.

Some don't mind the tent and some are scared of them.

I agree with the Toddler Bed. DS climbed out at about 18 mos. We got a toddler bed, and then subsequently got the foam squares to put on his floor (we have hardwood floors in our house), and then got a soft rug to put just around the perimeter of his bed. He is still able to climb out of his toddler bed, but it is only 4 inches off the ground.

personally, i would do a crib tent over a toddler bed. as soon as we moved DD into her bed (twin size), it was a nightmare. she stopped napping for months and was constantly getting out of bed and pulling her clothes out of her drawers, playing, jumping around, it was nuts!!!! I'd keep the crib as long as possible.

Well we figured we would try the toddler bed since our crib converts and they went to sleep with little trouble, I would say within 15 minutes. They have been sleeping for 4 hours so far and not a peep...I am so happy we made the move. To spend $150 on crib tents (I have Twins) I just didnt think it was worth it....
