Wow a really bad cold just crept up on me!

Two days ago I felt totally fine. Yesterday when I woke up my throat was a little scratchy and by 6pm I could hardly swallow, was all stuffed up, had the chills, etc. I hardly slept last night b/c my throat was horrible and today it's a bit better but i'm home from work.

I'm going to call the doc in a bit, but what can they give me? I really don't want to take medication if I don't have to, even if they say it is safe for pregnant women. I just hope it's not strep.

UPDATE 3pm: I sat in the dr. office for over 2 hours... ugh. But i'm glad I went b/c he didn't see any spots or redness on my glands and said it isn't strep. He didn't want to give me any meds that I don't need. He said rest and fluids and to give him a call if it gets worse. I'm feeling a little better, I have more energy and hopefully can go to work tomorrow.

I would go to the doc just to get checked, drink hot tea and lozenges should help the throat, and rest rest rest, I was so sick last week and went to the doc, she gave me meds but I never took them ended up getting better a day later, I just kept rubbing vicks all over and sleeping alot and tons of fluids and keep taking your vitamins!!!!! But definately get checked out to see if it is more than a cold...feel better

There is some OTC stuff you can take, but make sure it's not an infection of some sort where you need antibiotics, if it is, take them!!! An infection is far worse for your baby and there are plenty of antibotics that are totally safe for you and your baby.

definately see the Dr to rule out strept. If it is an infection, you will have to take something just so you don't make it worse.

But for now, rest, keep yourself hydrated, hot tea with honey & lemon, stay away from diary.

Definitely go get checked out. There are medications and cough medicines you can take while pregnant that will not harm the baby but will help you. I've had bronchitis and sinus infections with both pregnancies and they usually put me on a Zpack. If it is a cold you may not need to take anything but fluids and rest.

I had the same thing. I had a cold for almost 3 weeks. I finally got over it. I tried Robitussin and Sudafed and finally had to get an antibiotic from the doctor because it was so bad. The antibiotic was the only thing that helped.

I had this last week and my sore throat was actually from post nasal drip related to the cold. I used Saline spray (make sure its only saline and nothing else) to help clear it out and the sore throat went away within a day.
