Would you vacation with your in-laws?
So DH and I decided to go to Ireland this year for vacation. We were thinking of going in early August, probably for 10days. We were leaning towards doing a tour. Anyway, we just heard that his parents were planning on going in July. Do you think we should go together? I think it would be fun and love the idea of going with toher people. But, I also have some doubts. Would appreciate your feedback. TIA

We have been considering going away with them but on a cruise. Honestly when my IL's are home they are very up your butt in your buisness people but on vacation I don't think we would really ever even see them

Family vacations is a big thing with my in-laws. Every other year they all go to Aruba. Aunts and Uncle included. I'm looking forward to my first trip with them. As long as DH and I go somewhere by ourselves during they year, I don't mind.

I think it depends on your relationship with them, If you have ANY doubts at all then... DON"T DO IT! Take it from me, we did it last year and it was a horror.

We have to. Many of DH's family members live in Italy. So, guess where we stay. And, guess who comes along, too?
Sometimes, DH will ask his Italian cousins to plan stuff just for "our group" (meaning, without our elderly parents). But, aside from that, my MIL will tag along where ever we go.
But, this is only 5-6 days every 2 years when we visit Italy. Other than that, we vacation on our own.

We are going away with DH's parents and sisters in August. They have a timeshare in St. Maarten that they are always trading up for other places. This summer, we're going to Arizona. It's a free vacation for me and DH, so we're glad to go! I went along with them on 3 vacations before we got married too.

Since I really don't like MIL, I really don't want to, but I know they plan taking all of us to Disney next year and DH doesn't feel like being the one to start an arguement over it.
On the other hand, my cousin and her husband used to go to the Jersey Shore every summer with their kids, my cousin's sister as well as both sets of grandparents. Everyone got along really well and the kids loved having everyone there with them. Sometimes another set of my cousins would rent the house next door and there would be a huge group there. My brother and I were always jealous that we couldn't go, but we didn't grow up around here.

Oh no no no no I would not go on vacation with my inlaws they live 4 hours away and MIL is still always in o ur business and try to run our life well her sons life. She is exactly like marie barone from everyone loves raymond. When she comes nad visits us she is like are these sheets clean and criticizes some of my cooking and cleaning. Hello yes my living room may be a mess but its a mess cuz I have an nine month old daughter who takes her toys all over the place thats the only reason why its a mess. I would go away with his Stepfather but not his mother. I would also go away with his stepmother and real father they are great.

I think it would depend on how you get along with them. My FMIL is a huge complainer. She is a hypochondriac and finds anything and everything to complain about. She came with my family on vacation to Disney two years and ago and it will never happen again. That's just my situation though, I know plenty of people get along really well with their in laws.

Ditto!! I have such little vacation time that i do not want to spend it with people that i can see every day. A vacation to me is a getaway from the everyday.

Oh my god, I think Disney is the kiss of death, we too had a horrible experience there too!

Ive done it before and im sure ill have to do it again. Lets just say we aren't the best of friends but I always make it know that when im on Vaca I like to be on my own sched. and no one elses IE don't expect me to spend every minute with you.

I went away with then Future in-laws Labor Day weekend 1997. From the word go, it was a total trainwreck. We had to "share" a room with Future MIL because she made the arrangements and claimed the motel didn't have any more rooms (not true). I only found that out on the way down. So imagine how uncomfortable it was that we had to sleep in separate beds and everything I did was scrutinized. Future BIL/SIL met us down there (they stayed in a different Hotel) and they did nothing but fight and bicker all weekend. I got into a very heated argument with MIL at the end of one evening because I had simply had enough "family togetherness" and I felt like I was being choked to death (figuratively). I chose to walk off by myself while they had a late night dinner. She grabbed me, spun me around and told me off. I got right in her face and gave it right back. Then she started boo-hooing to everyone how mean I was to her and FH and I got into a brawl. They all decided to go out without me (thank the lord) and they all got into a brawl in a Blimpie parking lot. Fists were flying and everything. We ended up leaving around 1:00 a.m. in the morning to head home...drove all the way back from Richmond VA overnight. FH and I broke up over that fight for six months because his "mommy" wouldn't accept me.
I know alot of this doesn't make sense but all I can tell you is I still get a knot in my stomach when I hear the words "Kings Dominion" and I get faint if we're ever traveling past the place, going south. Never in a million years would I venture as far as the outskirts of the city with any of them.

SURE! I actually went to Disney for 5 days with my mother-in-law, just the two of us and we had SO much fun. This was actually even before DH and I were engaged!

In July we are going on a vacation with DH's entire family to Hilton head, SC. I get along with his family so it should be fun, although I would much rather go away alone with him. it is nice to do things together with the whole family sometimes. I don't think I would go away just me, DH, and his parents. That would be weird. Maybe after the grandchildren come!

Definitely. We've gone away with them before and had SOOO much fun. They are the best. We're actually planning another trip with them right now.
Now my family on the other hand...
