Would you take in a stray kitten?

A while back I posted about the stray cats in my area. I tried calling Animal Rescue among other people to try and have them removed, but I was told I would need to do it myself. Seeing as how I'm 8-1/2 months prego now, I didn't see myself doing that.

Fast forward to now...there is the CUTEST striped kitten outside. I REALLY am considering taking him in, but am a little scared. DH tried catching it this morning, but it keeps running. I'd love to take it in, but :

1) don't know if it's wild
2) don't know if it has fleas among other things
3) am expecting and don't know if it's a good idea to bring a cat into the house
4) my dog would lose it!! LOL!

What do you think?

Re: Would you take in a stray kitten?

Are you asking if we think YOU should take in a kitten given your situation or are you asking if any of us would rescue a kitten regardless of the situation? Just trying to understand.

Re: Would you take in a stray kitten?

I would if I were you! Kittens are very easily domesticated when they are so young. You can take it to the vet to be spayed/neutered, and they can check for fleas and ear mites. You won't be able to deal with the litter box while PG, but if your DH is willing to help it wouldn't be a problem!

Right now no.

We already have a cat that is scared of its own shadow... I've barely seen her in days.

I'd be worried she might bring something into the house now that we have little ones.

we took in two stray kittens last year...
just took them to the vet got them checked out and shots..
now they have been ours for over a year.. theyre the best pets ive ever had!

as long as you dont clean out the litter box make ur dh do it.. some cats carry some horomone or something thast inst' good for expecting moms to be around litter box area

I guess both would apply.

Many of us on here (and I'm sure this will be moved to pets) do something called Trap/Neuter/Release. You take a stray cat get it tested to see if there's anything wrong with it, and have it fixed. You can choose to keep it or re-release it, but at least it won't go back out and be creating a bigger problem and creating more unwanted kittens.

I personally have taken in 2 strays and they were both fine. I've also taken 16 strays that I have found homes for and others that I just have fixed and re-released where I found them. I currently right this second have a 4 week old kitten I am caring for until it can be fixed. FM me if you want/need any other information!!

Then my answer to the first question would be "no." I do not like cats and I am highly allergic.

If you think your family and dog would like it and you and your DH can handle it while caring for an infant, then go for it.

Re: Would you take in a stray kitten?

WHOOPS, I forgot to answer the question.

100 TIMES, YES!!!!!!!!!!

I've had about 6 stray cats over the course of my lifetime, and they have made the best pets by far!! My baby, Smudge, was my BEST FRIEND for 19 years, and we found her in the woods.

I say do it! God only knows what will happen to it if you don't! Chat Icon

Have you contacted the trappers I fm'd you?
Unless you have the adults trapped and fixed, you will have more kittens running around.
