Not all of us against the bill are heartless sacrificial biotches.
I do think that we have a humanitarian obligation to help those that are truly impovershed, in dire financial need and that those that have been dealt an unforseen financial blow should get some sort of temporary relief. I stipulate my argument by stating that I should not have to subsidize through increased taxes and higher premiums for those that chose a different opportunity cost - i.e. an $800/month car payment over an already available medical coverage. Clearly these people are not in need. Where is the justice in that?
And I definitely don't think it should be mandated where you will be fined and/or punished for not carrying health coverage. That's where the unconstitutional argument is made.

a couple of my thoughts to add on:
-I resent people suggesting that just because you dont support this bill that you're selfish and have that me me me mentality. The bill is so completely flawed and their approach to reform, even more so.
- I've seen many people IRL (and on here, i'm sure) that complain about the cost of health insurance being too high, yet they drive luxury vehicles and/or splurge in many other areas. So essentially, the government (i.e, the tax payers) have to pay for that poor decision.
- the problems with the system are still going to exist. Fine people all you want, the drains on the systme are still going to be there. Those that are here illegally are still going to use the ERs as their Dr's office, etc and never pay a dime. If you're aware how often this occurs, you'll understand how badly this will affect the areas where it happens the most.

 well said.
I agree that healthcare and insurance reform is desperately needed, but I do not want the govt making choices for me.
The govt. cant even deliver mail or run any of their organizations; im supposed to believe that the govt handling healthcare will be better??

my main beef with this bill:
federally funded abortions :( tax dollars should not be used for something that millions of Americans are against
nothing to address tort reform (thank you lawyer lobbyists)
the insane amount of money this will cost.
making people purchase insurance... it's a slippery slope--what will they say that we have to do next?
however, i do hope this works. so many people need the help.

i don't want to get into the whole pro-life / pr-choice thing on here, it gets too crazy, but it's still in the bill. Obama signed an executive order he would take it out exccept for the three situations you mentioned, but an executive order has absolutely no legal weight and can easily be overturned or just flat out ignored. it's not the law because it's not IN the bill.

Here is why I am for this bill:
1) No denying of coverage of children due to preexisitng conditions.
2) Insurance through age 26- encourages higher learning
3) Insurance providers can't charge women more
Also, I am concerned about people who are saying what about people that can afford insurance, but instead choose 800/month car payments. I agree with this, but how would you monitor that? Punish people who are trying to do the right thing for those that don't.
Now I am relatively new to NY,so I admit I am ignorant of the insurance laws, but where I lived previously, health care was guaranteed to all children under 19 who were not eligible for Medicare and had HHI of no more than 200% of the federal poverty level and pregnant women whose HHI was no more than 250% of the federal poverty level. So yeah I think health care is a right, not a choice.
