I will be honest, I have pandemic fatigue. I am reaching a point where I just don't give a single f$5k anymore about any of this. I am sick and tired of masks, of not going near people, of not traveling, of not having parties and weddings and of not enjoying life in the manner I have been accustomed to for the last 45 years. I have ZERO desire to keep living like this, what we are doing at this point in time is EXISTING, we aren't LIVING.
I have NO doubt, vaccine or not, that we will reach a point VERY soon where people will just stop all of this. They will stop with the masks, the social distancing, the cancelling of events, etc. etc. We cannot (and I personally will NOT) live like this forever. What has become of our way of life is sad, depressing and not sustainable. I want a better life and childhood for my kids. I want a better, NORMAL life for myself. I am literally at the end of my rope with everything. I think life will return to normal because we will reach a point where people demand it, this way of living SUCKS.
If there is a vaccine that works, I will take it because at this point I want NORMAL life back. Normal school. Normal social interactions. Normal human experiences. Normal everything.
I am honestly done. I can't live in this heightened sense of fear and dread anymore, I'd rather just take my chances in the world and live NORMALLY again.

I agree. In 10 days it will be 6 months. We were supposed to be home for two weeks to flatten the curve.

I’m more positive. I think things will be better after this winter. There are so many states that have truly been open since the beginning. I am in a state where everything is shut down and our cases are still very high. It’s not working and It’s something we just need to deal with. We will consider a move OOS if needed. The masks will also go away, once the infection rates dwindle, we won’t need them. Again, many states don’t even bother with them. Here comes my negativity, Remember financially, shit hasn’t hit the fan yet. People can’t pay mortgages and rents, credit card bills, auto loans , unemployment running out, mass layoffs, etc. The market may be good now , but if we don’t all get back to work and in office, the NY economy is going to tank. I know so many people who’ve been laid off and can’t find a job. It’s going to get much worse . One more huge issue is the NY’ers that have the funds to leave, left with change of address. They are no longer paying into the city and state taxes, that money is going to need to come from somewhere .

I can not imagine going into another “lockdown” so I think we will eventually ease back into normalcy regardless of what is going on with Covid. I honestly think something else will steal the limelight and Covid will become a “flu” that is just here and we will all just move on and become obsessed with the next newsworthy thing.
My friend in Australia posted an article and reading the comments made it sound like they are just as fed up as we are here in America. So it’s not just “us” who are hoping to return to normal.
I just feel bad for my kids. Looking at their classrooms is sickening. I hope there isn’t too much mental scarring when this is all over.

I totally agree with everything Hofstra said above (except for taking the vaccine). I'm there. I'm done. It's over for me. I just can't anymore. My kids deserve to have a life. If that makes me selfish then so be it. I am at the point where I am okay with selfish. I do not do anything to harm anyone else - I'm not running around touching people and coughing on people and I wear my mask places that mandate it. But masks need to go. The fact that our kids in school need to be given "breathing breaks" is the most insane thing. I also think, despite all these politicians wanting 1000% more power and control, that we will not have another lockdown again. It didn't work the first time and only caused catastrophic damage.

The pandemic isn’t over just because you are over it. Things will go back to normal at some point but unfortunately we aren’t there yet. I think early next year but go really knows.

The pandemic isn’t over just because you are over it. Things will go back to normal at some point but unfortunately we aren’t there yet. I think early next year but go really knows.
This ends when people have had enough and start living their lives like normal again. It ends when businesses cannot afford to lose any more money because of these restrictions. It ends when the majority of our society decides to not fall in line anymore.
This isn't sustainable. Especially not into next year or longer. There will come a point where we won't recover economically, mentally, academically, etc.

We could have been gone back to some sense of normal by now had we had a normal administration who encouraged masks and science and didn’t silence the health professionals. Also would have helped to not have a massive amount of dumb people who believed it was a hoax and refused to wear a mask or socially distance. Or governors who entirely dropped the ball and re-opened too quickly and now are the states in red. I saw plenty of geniuses having parties back in April and May calling others sheep. Our country needed everyone to be on the same page and a large percentage failed and continue to fail. 190k are dead and 400k projected dead by January. We are in this position due to selfishness and stupidity. I see people trying to rationalize it as a small percentage of deaths but that means nothing when it’s your loved one.
We won’t be back to any sense of normal until we have a change in leadership and an actual national plan and one cohesive message.

To have rallies like the one in New Hampshire not too long ago, no masks in sight and the crowd booing when asked to wear one. Or the big MAGA parade yesterday here and people hanging out in a parking lot, tailgating, buying Trump stuff made in China. The same people keep saying “never forget!” about 9/11 when we’ve well surpassed deaths from that day in September and we all could have worked to prevent it. It makes no sense. I’ve seen the pain CoVid has brought families who have lost loved ones or they are in bad shape. It’s frustrating.

I always thought I was a social person, but apparently not.
Honestly, after the initial shock of it all, I haven’t been living much differently-and I’m VERY cautious about all this.
I did miss traveling this summer, but we had no real plans to anyways. And a family member has a vacation home in a “safe state” we used multiple times. My kids played sports, and we had individual, outdoor play dates with a few friends.
I never liked going to stores anyways, so had most of my stuff delivered anyways. Now, I just try to have it all delivered. I get annoyed the two or three times I had to physically go into a store bc I couldn’t get something delivered lol.
We also only ate inside a restaurant a handful of times a year-maybe 5 or 6. Never really went to movies-maybe once every other year. Don’t use gyms or bowling alleys.
I’m actually sad my kids are starting school next week (even though, yes, they drive me crazy sometimes).

Did we forget the pissing match in the beginning of the pandemic. Remember when governors preached how the federal government can’t dictate what states do blah blah blah. The beginning of the pandemic was a disaster and a power struggle between state and federal. We all lost. And it’s every single person in governments fault...both federal and state. They couldn’t play nice and we all suffered.

I agree (with the exception of a vaccine at this point...I may feel different when they have done more research on it) but I'm done with this whole thing, the masks, social distancing, etc. This weekend we were at the car dealer and there were soooo many people who didn't have their masks on. I think people are just getting fed up at this point. A few days ago DD1 told me mom I thought we were only supposed to do this 2 weeks so we can flatten the curve but it's been 6 months. She's so stressed about going back to school and I don't blame her. We cannot keep living like this for a virus that has a high survival rate. We are going crazy and people are literally suffering from mental issues because of all of this not to mention those who have lost their livelihoods.

And even if everyone listened then - the virus wouldn't have disappeared. We flattened the curve to not overwhelm the healthcare system (which because the virus had spread more than imagined before we shut down was already overwhelmed). This exercise was never for the virus to go away. It was so the healthcare system was not overloaded.
And now it's still a huge political pissing match.

I am in agreement with most on this thread that I am at the point where I feel we need to slowly start getting back to normal, with mask wearing and social distancing, but indoor dining, normal school, etc. Unfortunately, just because people want it and are unwilling to live like this much longer, that does not make it so.
Carle Place school district announced today the school year will start remotely "until further notice" because 30 cases among students at the high school have been reported. Last weekend there was a party, and it spread. So, people can stop complying all they want, but the government is going to do what it's going to do anyway. As much as I do not want to believe it, I see many districts on LI not lasting more than 3-4 weeks, before clusters of cases force a switch back to remote. I can only hope it would only be for two weeks, and not months like last time.

If we had a president who was the least bit inspirational and brought people together, instead of being decisive and denying science, I believe we’d be in a very different place now

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping (even as a trump supporter) he was wrong and all these things do help. We are screwed if all these ridiculous precautions don’t work and schools can’t stay open, we will never return to normal.

It’s been proven that masks work. If there are outbreaks when schools start, it doesn’t t mean masks don’t work. It means this virus spreads super easily and especially when people spend time together indoors. All it takes is for a couple of people to not follow proper procedures to ruin it for everyone. So IF numbers start to go up, it’s not necessarily because the science is wrong. It could very well be because of people who continue to refuse to follow protocols

When we talk about back to normal what are you really saying? Stores are open, restaurants are open, places we go to are open. Yes, schools have been closed but the school year is just starting. I have been out to eat multiple times now. Both indoor and out, and there has never been a wait , even with a 25 or 33% capacity limit. I guess I am not really sure what people are asking for? No masks? If its allowing these things to be open and stopping the spread then why not?
People are having weddings and parties, etc.
I hear people complaining about all this doom and gloom but its a lot of the times from people who want things to "go back to normal". Like life is ending because they have to wear a mask.

No masks? If its allowing these things to be open and stopping the spread then why not?
People are having weddings and parties, etc.
I hear people complaining about all this doom and gloom but its a lot of the times from people who want things to "go back to normal". Like life is ending because they have to wear a mask.
Schools - two days a week in person isn't cutting it.
Travel - it's been majorly frowned upon.
Large gatherings and celebrations. People are having weddings and parties but, they are a much smaller scale than they used to be - definitely not the same.
In some places, indoor dining just opened and in some places it still isn't open.
Things are nowhere near normal and it's taking a toll on my mental health as well as my family's.

When we talk about back to normal what are you really saying? Stores are open, restaurants are open, places we go to are open. Yes, schools have been closed but the school year is just starting. I mean, there are many parts of daily life that are still radically different from how they were in February. That's what people are asking for.
What you--and I mean the general you, not you specifically--think of what people are asking for is your own opinion, but I don't think we can deny that--for many people--life is certainly not what it was 7 months ago.

New York City- concerts, live music, Broadway shows, going to a bar, and all the things the city used to offer.
Hopping on the train and heading in to the city to spend the day exploring, museums, eating out, etc
Eating INSIDE in a restaurant in NYC
Travelling to other states and not having to stay home for 14 days after returning
Travelling internationally
Professional Sports- going to a baseball or football or hockey game and watching it there in person.
School sports- having them be allowed fully again
Going back to work- in the office- interacting with co workers and clients not sitting home working and this "zoom" nonsense
Real school- 5 days a week for ALL kids
The list goes on, but these are just a few.
I can't believe it's even a discussion that the way it is now is pretty much normal because a few things have opened back up and it's fine to live like this indefinitely.

I really never thought I'd miss work but as I prepare to wrestle my third grader into his chair to start his distance learning - I do. I really do... Luckily my 5th grader was excited to start middle school so he went willingly at 7:45.
Wrestling your anxious child to sit at a computer for 6 hours for 4 days this week is nowhere near normal.
