I don't know whats "typical", but we sent ours out when she was a few weeks old.

I just ordered mine and should be receiving them and sending them out this coming week. DS will be 5 wks old. It took me forever to pick out the pictures I wanted and find something I liked. I wish I had done it earlier, but things were too hectic.
