Encylopedia Brown series, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Although it wasn't in my childhood - Lemony Snickets are great.

I was a geek- I went straight to the Little House books, which I got for Christmas when I was in first grade. But those were also the days before the more "authentic" literature and chapter books for kids.
Kids I've worked with like series books- Amber Brown, Cam Jansen, Nate the Great, Marvin Redpost, etc.
I envy kids today- there is so much more good literature out there for them.

Oh wow yes. I was a bookworm. Encyclopedia Brown, Sweet Valley High, Judy Blume. There were also the scary books too, I forget the names of them. They all had black covers and had scary stories about kids doing seances and stuff.

I was also a reading dork when I was a kid. Actually, I didn't read books, I devoured them.
*In kindergarten, I loved the Little House on the Prairie books (my mom read to me)
*anything by Roald Dahl- my second grade teacher used to read them to us
*The Betsey, Tacy and Tib Books (Maud Harte Lovelace)
*Nancy Drew
*The Shoe Books- most famous is Ballet Shoes (Noel Streatfield)
*The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
*Anne of Green Gables series
This was all in grade school. I'm sure there were others, but I can't remember.

No, this was before goosebumps. I probably should have been reading them, they were very scary from what I remember.
Remember those books that had two versions of the same story from different characters? If you turned it over and read it from the back, you could read it from the viewpoint of someone else.

This brings back so many memories. My friend & I were such nerds we joined the library club in our neighborhood during the summer. Your name was put on a list to see who read the most books that summer. Needless to say we were pretty near the top.

& remember those books where you could choose the next step, I forget what they were called. (choose your own adventure books or something like that)
