What is the most annoying/wrong advice you have received?

Mostly from the older generation.

My dd is not hungry bc I'm not putting rice cereal in her bottle at 3 months. Have you seen her? Does she look hungry?!?!? I assure you she's well fed

Water is not okay for my 1 month old baby but thanks

No I'm not trying to keep her awake all day so she sleeps better at night. I would just end up with a cranky, over tired baby.

No I'm not letting my baby who is a few weeks old cry it out. Newborns can't be spoiled.

My DS is 20 months and still doesn't sleep thru the night. You would be shocked to know how many people seriously suggest I dose my kid with cough syrup everynight. Chat Icon

DS is 14 months old and I am constantly told that I am depriving him of vitamins because I do not give him juice.

Yes, definitely this.
And when DD was an infant and we picked her up when she was crying we were spoiling her.

Yes to both!!! It's like hunger is the only reason a baby cries. I could list about 20 more...

Re: What is the most annoying/wrong advice you have received?

My dd haaaates being strapped down in her carseat. Hates it. So much. Long drives are like torture for her and anyone else in the car. We've tried everything, of course, to keep her happy in the car, and sometimes she's ok but when she decides she wants out, nothing will console her. Not me sitting next to her, not milk, water, snacks, toys, cartoons, music. All she wants is to not be strapped down. Anyway, every time we mention this to DHs grandmother, as our way of explaining why we don't make the 40 min drive to visit her as often because we hate hearing dd scream and cry like she's in pain the whole drive, she asks if we tried offering her a bottle or sippy cup. Chat Icon Yes, of course, thats the first thing we always try. Then she proceeds to tell us how HER kids always fell asleep in the car. Well not all kids are the same! Also, did people even use carseats 55 years ago?

What is the most annoying/wrong advice you have received?

Shes cold (its summer and its 100 degrees today, literally)
she needs socks (again its summer and its 100 degrees)

No I don think a 6 month old needs to drink juice. Nor do I think my 17th month old needs juice. She doesn't NEED juice.

Shes crying- whats wrong with her?! ugh just tell her to get over it.

Babies have to cry to strengthen their lungs. The rice in bottle to make her sleep.

I have another one....

She's cold she needs to be in a jacket. Actually no, you're not supposed to have them in big jackets in her car seat. That's why she is belted in with a warm, cozy, plus blanket on over her and she's wearing a hat. Andddddd she's practically on the verge of sweating when I take her out. She's not cold.

This coming from someone who raised their baby in the city and her stroller was her car. Grrrrrr

Ugh. I got the socks thing too in the middle of summer during the heat wave. And then I was told that babies lose heat from their feet. Ummm no, they lose it from their head like ALL humans do.

When I was nursing I was asked when I planned to start him on formula because formula "is so nutritious". Ok, over breast milk? Sure

What is the most annoying/wrong advice you have received?

My child isn't even here yet and so far I've heard -

So you'd rather your child freeze than wear a coat in the car seat?
- 1. She's not going to freeze in the 30 seconds it takes to walk to the car. 2. She'll have a blanket. 3. I'm less concerned with freezing than I am with her not being safe in her car seat.

What do you mean you're not going to go into another room if you're BFing?
- I mean that if I feel comfortable enough, I'm going to feed her wherever I am.

You're going to RF past a year? You won't be able to see her. What if she cries.
- But she'll be safer if she RF's past a year.

Says who?
- Research

I got the cat thing too. I have two and my FIL was constantly saying they would be jealous and scratch the baby etc. it was before she was even born and even after. Now he stops bc I told him it's fine. The. Arts come up to her and head butt her to snuggle. It was sooooo annoying though.

I'm not the first person in the world to have a baby and have a cat.

It's this or as my MIL likes to tell me - "she must be gassy!" All three kids - it's gas. I assure you that I know the difference between gas and whatever else is. I got so mad when she was here when my DD was 3 days old and she's telling me it's gas anytime she whimpered. My milk hadn't even come in yet!
