depending on the brand i have found some brands are longer in the 2t... some brands i have found that the 24 month is actually alittle wider and shroter... with ds i always hold both the 2t and 24 month up to each other and see the difference

The wider is for the diaper. All the 2Ts I've seen are longer than 24 months by at least 1/2 inch.

ETA: In shirts you will find 24 month size is a onsie and a 2T is an actual shirt.

i always understood why the pants were wider.. the tshirts i never understood... put a 2t t on ds and it is tight on him, 24 months and he is swimming... there is no diaper on the top
