What does your doctor discuss with you?

I feel like every week I go, they do the same thing - he/she never discusses anything with me! They didn't even tell me to go for my Level II the genetics place just happened to schedule it for me when I was there getting my Integrated test. I hear about these CVS, AFP (or something like that) tests on here but not from them. I'm wondering since there are 5 doctors in the practice they assume someone else told me to go. People keep asking me if they talked to me about c-sections or when I'll give birth, etc. but none of that has come up yet. I'm almost 21 weeks, is it b/c its too soon or are they just bad doctors? Chat Icon Do your doctors "talk" to you when you're there for your OB appts?

with most of my doctors, i have to ask about all that stuff, but at my 24 week appt, the one dr. brought up a whole bunch of stuff (glucose test, pediatrician, how i'll deliver, and gave me the hospital packet).

Not too much with me either. He actually took blood for my AFP test and i didn't even know it was for that. I assume i passed all of my tests because they never call with results (they said they would only if there is an issue). I am the one usually asking the quesitons. Sometimes i feel like i fall between the cracks. However, my doctor at my initial appointment (when he confirmed the twins) discussed how he handles these deliveries and why and told me about the c-section and when he will deliver them.

I feel pretty secure with him actually and I think it's just their way of not trying to make you more anxious. If there is an issue they will handle it then.

Mine have been pretty good, they tell me when or if I wanted to go for the AFP test, etc, and woud let me know when my glucose test is.

Re: What does your doctor discuss with you?

Don't worry the CVS Test... I think is for people 35 and over. The other test AFP is similar to the Nuccal Test with a higher accuracy rate. They test for downs and spina
bifida. So I think if you had one or the other your okay. Most doctors in NY have to give the option for test, but this test if fairly new...only a couple of years (the nuccal).

I know friends and family out of state that never had any of these tests. So they maybe
optional. If your feeling concerned definitely
speak to your doctor.

I usually asked before they even had the chance to mention it, LOL.

My Dr discussed delivery options in the beginning and we had a discussion about my health, weight gain, limitations, etc right in the beginning, becuase he could tell I was freaking out.

My doctor has been great discussing things with me - maybe it's because she is a woman and understands us better. She didn't discuss delvery option with me until I was 28 weeks. she gave the pros and cons and we decided together a c-section would be the best option.
