IMO those baby towels with that spot for the head are super useless.
They aren't abosorbent and yup they are cute but I have about 5 of them and IMO a huge waste of money a real towel would be better.
Having any kind of Johnson's or diaper rash type items on your registry because in the long run you will get tons of it anyway.
Edited to add..
My boppy (I used it maybe 3x's to prop him for pictures but he rolled early making it unsafe and for breastfeeding I didn't like it either)
Large and Small matching Graco Diaper Bag because they are too big or too small. I used my free hospitals ones up until last month when I went out and got a Vera Bradly Carryall which is perfect for us:)
Also my sterilizer and my bottle warmer. I used them alot for about a month but in the long run I think a boiling pot of water would have been easier and ALOT cheaper!

One thing I wish is that I hadn't been so crazed about getting everything new. It kills me that I have a $60 gymini and didn't want to borrow my sisters.

I would say:

Wipe warmer is a waste - not only that but they get used to warm wipes - which you won't have available outside of your house so they scream from a regular temp wipe.

Bottle warmer - not completely necessary.

My Breast Friend pillow - complete waste - can only be used for breastfeeding. At least the Bobby had dual uses -using to breast feed, to teach to sit up. You can lean them over the Bobby for better pictures and to play. I didnt' have one but I also know a mom who used it to sit on post partum bc her tush hurt.

Also Microsoft IntelliTable ($80) was useless. They'd rather bang around a spoon & pot.

funny cause I love those towels with the place for the head (I think its because Talia has a lot of hair so it keeps her a little warmer while I am dressing her)...just make sure you get large ones and the thicker the better!

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

recieving blankets...beacuse so many of the new born and 3 months clothes come with recieving blankets...so there really is no need to register for them.

I also registered for 2 diaper bags...a large one and a smaller one. I returned teh smaller one...because the hospital always gives you a small black bag either from similian or enfamil....I used the credit to buy something more useful.

Too many receiving blankets. I have no idea what people use these for. We use a swaddle me so I don't use them to swaddle.

Those cheap hooded towels. I have 2 that are like real towels and I love those, the ones that come 3 in a package are junk.

Other than that I think we've used almost everything we registered for and found most things pretty useful.

I agree though definitely could not live without the FP Ocean Wonders Bouncy Seat.

I agree with the receiving blankets. I'll also add bibs--I registered for like 1 bib, and I kid you not, I have close to 40 now!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: I've used a bib like once so far (10 weeks)

I really, really loved my boppy! It was great for bfing and also for bottle feeding. It propped him at the perfect angle. Can't believe how many didn't like it.. I never used my bjorn thing. Could never figure out how to get him in it quick enough and comfortable enough. Also love the cd player for the crib although it runs out of battery life too quickly- it really helped in getting our son to sleep

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

Useless:
Bouncy seat - my son hated it.
Wipe warmer

Things I love:
Mini co sleeper
Boppy - I didn't BF but it was great for propping him on the couch. Now that he can feed himself I lay him in it to raise his head.
Bottle warmer w/cooling compartment - When my son had night feedings it was great bc I could put two bottles in the cooler section and never have to go downstairs in the middle of the night.

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

I returned:
Microwave bottle sterilizer
Bottle warmer
.....Some people love these but I wash the bottles in hot soapy water after every use and boil for sterilization once a week and it seems to work just as well.

......I BF so we don't use too many bottles but I warm them for about 5 minutes in hot water....I've heard this will get harder when there is more in the bottle (it's usually only about 4oz) but we'll see when the time comes.

I like the towels with the hoods b/c it keeps his head warm. BUT I registered for too many, I now have 2 and that's plenty (I'm able to do wash often). Same with receiving blankets.......He was born in summer so I would cover him with them in the car seat (blankets were too warm) but you only need a couple.

I wouldn't register for too many bibs or blankets. I have about 40 bibs and 15 blankets.......many people give them as gifts.

My two favorites are..........
Miracle Blanket.......I would have gone over the edge without it!
Swing.......I believe the ket to this is to get them in it early. I started at 2 weeks and he LOVES it......could stay in there for hours. My brother put his son in it a month and half and he doesn't really like it.

You will need those bibs later. I thought the same and I go through them like crazy.
I agree about the receiving blankets, I have a ton and definitely don't need as many as I have. IMO other wastes are

Bottle Warmer
Wipes Warmer
Sterilizers
Diaper Genie
The cheap hooded towels, deinitely don't keep any of those they are junk

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

I just returned a package of receiving blankets and a package of side snap shirts. Make sure that you register for extra crib sheets and at least 2 mattress pads. There were a couple of times when he wet the sheet and pad but I only had one sheet and in the middle of the night it is a pain to wash.

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

I love my boppy also -- both when we were trying to breastfeed (it helped with positioning her SO much) and even now when we bottle feed. I am feeding her for HOURS a day and she's a big baby so it helps my arm not to go tired and numb!!!

I would say the most useless thing was the bottle warmer. What a waste of $20. Also right now her crib is kinda useless -- she doesn't like to sleep it in, and chooses the swing, bouncer, and car seat over it in a flash. Next time around I am going to get the bassinet from onestepahead.com because it vibrates like the bouncer which she really seems to get soothed by.

I would also have to aggree on bibs. We've used them twice only when I was giving her medicine for her thrush and she'd spit it out -- but she got over spitting it out and we didn't need it anymore.

One thing I'd have to say that you'll use a LOT of that I didn't thikn I would is washcloths. We got through MANY MANY MANY a day because she has sensitive skin and the wipes irritate her. She we go through probably 20 a day so we have a lot so we dont' have to do wash multiple tiems a day, just once at night.

And I personally love the hooded towels -- and I think the thinner oens are easier to wrap her up in then the thick ones. THat's just my opinion.

Oh and baby bathrobes are pointless. We have 2 and she just cries when she gets out of the bath and putting her in a bathrobe would just be too time consuming and would tick her off even more.

Believe me when she starts teething and eating solids you'll be happy that you have them..... We go through at least 6 bibs a day. He pretty much wears them most of the day when he's awake bc he's teething and he likes to chew on them.

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

I agree with the receiving blankets.. many people give them as gifts.. its nice if you have a spring baby I guess and want a light blanket over ther legs.. I dont know.. lol
Bibs though.. you may not use them now but you will.. and when they start disappearing, you will be praying you had 30 of them Chat Icon

IMO--
Waste of registry:
Wipe warmer- makes them warm, but more moist.. Cold and wet feel very similar to babies.. especially boys..

portable swing-my son had NO intrest in the swings whatsoever, when he was first born, by the time he did he grew out of the portable one.

Sterilizer- I boiled the water, in a pot, easier, cheaper and not too intimadating at 3am.

Travel system- WAS TOO BULKY.. wish there was an alternative when I had my son like the snap and go..

MUST HAVES:

SHEETS- you can NEVER have too many sheets.. whether they match or not.. KEEP THEM.. register for many.. lol.. You can never imagine how mess a blow out can get.. #1 OR #2..

(not necessarily registry item unless you register at Walmart/target)--Clorox disinfecting wipes- I used these to help clean many a blow out.. From just putting the diaper on wrong-DH- or down too low for a boy-ME, or a yucky belly later on.. Or just from the spit up from not burping well enough..dh.. lol

If you are having a baby towards the cold seasons, or if baby will be in infant carrier suring cold months the eddie Bauer infant carrier cover. Made of fleece, totally warm enough for baby without needing to over dress.. LOVED it!

Aquarium bouncer- My son LOVED this..

I dont remember the brand or name but the monitor I have is the one that has a picture lit on the ceiling.. and it moves, and plays music or nature sounds.. They have come out with a newer version since my son was born... I believe its FP.. My son LOVED the cricket sounds.. it also has a hand-held base that would let you turn on the soothing sounds and lights without being in the room, or talk to your baby if you were-for instance- using the potty when they awoke!! LOL.. LOVED IT..

Thats my 2 cents! HTH!! Good Luck..

Re: What are some things you registered for that are useless?

I can't believe so many found the bottle warmer useless - how do you warm the bottles? Hot water takes much longer... and while he can drink it at room temp and maybe even a little cold, I can't give him formula straight out of the fridge! I'm really curious now...

Anyway, here are the things I put on my registry that where a total waste of registry space:

- travel wipes warmer (though I love the full size one, and he doesn't scream when we are out and I have to use a cold one on him, it's just a nice treat that he has at home)

- glider and ottoman - worthless - we much preferred to do midnight feedings in the LR in with the TV on...

- microwave sterilzer
- manual breast pump

Also, I agree that the cheapie hooded towels are junk. Don't bother with those. The thick ones are good though. I also got a baby bathrobe & slippers as a gift. While it's insanely cute, it's totally ridiculous.

Receiving blankets we used alot in the beginning, now they are useless and I have too many.

For me the must haves were the swing, the infant seat, bottle warmer, Dr. Brown bottles which I didn't register for enough of them. I only registered for the starter set but you need like 8 - 12.

I heat a small amount of water (1/2cup) in the microwave for 1 minute, put the bottle in and its warm in about 2 minutes. To me, the bottle warmer was just one more gadget taking up precious space I just don't have in my tiny house.

I put the bottle in the microwave and then shake it it up a bit. I don't make it too hot, just warm. I have a method with my timing now.

That doesn't sound too bad...the bottle warmer take 5 mins so it's actually faster to microwave the water...

Stefanie - does shaking it up get rid of the hot spots that the microwave can create or do you let it sit for a minute first? That was my only fear in using the microwave...
