Man killed by train in Massapequa Park

An unidentified man was fatally hit by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Massapequa Park station Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The man, who was not a railroad employee and not authorized to be on the tracks, was hit by a westbound train around 1:30 p.m., said LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena.

MTA police are investigating why the man was on the tracks, Arena said. LIRR officials did not immediately release the man's name, age, or details of his appearance.

The train, which originated in Babylon at 1:10 p.m., was canceled, Arena said. Passengers were picked up by the next departing westbound train, which left Babylon at 1:35 p.m. and arrived 30 minutes late into Penn Station, at 3:19 p.m.

Service to Massapequa Park was restored between 2:15 p.m. and 2:20 p.m., Arena said.

I was on the 2:39 from penn to babylon and the conductor and I were talking and he just got a text saying everything was cleared up. We passed through Mass. Pk slow, but no body was there except a cop. I'm sure everything is back to normal by now.
