Updated with my brother's christmas card: Do you get annoyed when you receive "inexpensive" Holiday Cards?

Update:
First, I would like to say that this is probably my most "successful" thread ever! Five pages and still going Chat Icon
Second: My brother apparently was just as Chat Icon as I with regard to our relatives and decided to send out hallmark cards (as in individual $3.99 each cards) Chat Icon This was mine since I like cats.

Ok, I realize this question runs the risk of getting out of hand, but I just had a very frustrating and irritating phone call with a relative and I have to ask. Its a poll. You CAN remain anonymous! Chat Icon

Do you get annoyed or offended if you receive an "inexpensive" Christmas card? The backstory is: "Relative A" spends time and effort picking out beautiful Christmas cards. "Relative B" sends "Relative A" an inexpensive looking and feeling Christmas Card. "Relative A" is annoyed and insulted and next year plans on purchasing a generic "cheap" box of cards reserved for those that do not send "nice" cards.

I honestly can't believe that someone would get upset over such a thing! It's the thought that counts & the card, no matter how "cheap," implies that you're being thought of. I'm bewildered by this even being an issue for some people Chat Icon

Re: Do you get annoyed when you receive "inexpensive" Holiday Cards?

That is BEYOND ridiculous. That person seriously has nothing better to worry about than the quality of Christmas card they receive??

To answer the question, I don't usually send out Christmas cards. I think I've been taken off of most people's lists Chat Icon But I appreciate what I receive!

no, I don't get annoyed. I am happy that I am getting one in the first place. There are people that I send to and I don't get one back..that's another story.

I'd like this person to come out and state their case!!!!!!!!

I don't purchase cards based on cost/quality...but I find cards that I think are cute and express a nice sentiment! What does it matter how much is costs?!?!?!?!?

And FTR I also think this being an issue is INSANELY ridiculous.

Re: Do you get annoyed when you receive "inexpensive" Holiday Cards?

This is possibly one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard! I am happy to get a card from anyone, no matter what, and in all honesty, we are the ones who send out the less expensive cards! I don't have kids yet, so no photo cards, so I buy packages from the 50% off card store! Sometimes, I buy cards at the end of the season, when they are 75% off, for the following year! Chat Icon

Thankfully, I haven't seen any of my friends or family change the type of card they send me in reply.

Anyone who gets annoyed about the type of card they get really needs bigger things to think about! Chat Icon

Re: Do you get annoyed when you receive "inexpensive" Holiday Cards?

I don't think much of it when someone sends a generic card. We got one from a family member yesterday.

For the most part I think either they just aren't into cards and it's more of an obligation...and/or they did not have a budget for more expensive cards.

Honestly, it sounds more like a "Keeping up with the Joneses" mentality from the relative who made a big deal out of it. Yes they might be taking the time and consideration for a nice card, but that's THEIR choice. Sounds like she expects everyone to be like her and if they aren't, it's not good enough.

Good to know the spirit of Christmas is alive and well with them. Chat Icon

The only thing that annoys me about Christmas cards is when the glitter from them gets all over the place. Glitter looks so pretty on the cards but it gets everywhere!

I agree.

And FTR, I thought about doing the same thing at my office but thought it would look bad to have the postage machine stamp on the envelope versus a real stamp. Maybe I should reconsider?

No, I don't care about the quality of the card at all. I love getting all of them and knowing that the person/family thought to send me one.

I've had stacks of mail stamped at the post office and it does the meter stamps too. Same thing IMO!

This makes me laugh!

What is a "cheap" holiday card? Mostly I get/like cards with pictures (like of the family) on them, any other card is just a card to me...snowmen, birds, wreaths, trees. I have never thought oh this is cheap or not.

Re: Do you get annoyed when you receive "inexpensive" Holiday Cards?

I could care less what a card cost, as long as I am remembered.
I pick nice cards, write them out including the envelopes and take the time to get holiday stamps.
That's just me and the way I do things.
Most of the cards I receive in return are picture cards, put into an envelope with a mailing label. Nothing personal written on the cards, BUT AT LEAST I GET THEM. I hang every card in my entryway.
Next year I'm sending out holiday pictures of my cat, so I don't have to write anymore. Chat Icon

Re: Do you get annoyed when you receive "inexpensive" Holiday Cards?

I chose other because I could care less if I even receive a card so a 'cheap card" is a step above!

I DID kind of scratch my head when a weird coworker scanned the front of a christmas card and sent it in an email to me and a few other ladies.

THAT was bizarre...and super thrifty. He only had to buy one card Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
