Uhh, I got summoned for jury duty
I need to declare a hardship. I really cannot serve on it because:
1) I am nursing and pumping- unless they'll let me pump every 2 or 3 hours, I cannot serve. I risk becoming ill (plugged ducts, mastisis, etc...) or loosing my milk supply;
2) Yes, my child is in daycare-- several hours in the opposite direction from Riverhead. (I live in Suffolk and work in Nassau- daycare is in Nassau) I don't even think that daycare opens early enough for me to drive out there, drop him off and then make it to Riverhead in time;
3) Work does not pay me for jury duty. I used all of my vacation and personal pay for maternity leave. I cannot afford to not be payed right now.
Do you think they'll grant me a hardship even though I'm employed and have childcare? Any suggestions for how to go about this?

Just mail a letter in with your jury # on it and tell them you don't have anyone to watch your DC and you breastfed, they will excuse you right away. I never had a problem!

I don't think so.
Also, you can call them and tell them and they will give you specific instructions on what to do.

Send a note saying you are the primary caregiver to your child and that you can't serve at this time. I did that, and I also needed to send in a copy of the birth certificates, which I did. I got a 2 year break from having the chance to be summoned.

Yes, I made a copy of Julia's and sent it in.
Then any one can say they have a kid and get away with it.....

I got called too, just mail in a copy of your childs birth cert and they will excuse you.

i got one too you mail in a copy of the birth certificate with a letter stating you have no one to watch your child and your are nursing. this covers you for 5 years. you will not recieve anything back confirming it.
