ugh vent about shut down
OK im sorry but I don't know how much more my family can take. My husband is military you would think that's a secure job but no!! Yes military is covered however my DH is a full time reserve so he's considered a civilian worker during the week- I know makes no sense but that's how they get away with that they do I guess. :(
Not only was he froughlow for two months with no pay he is now shut down for at least 2 weeks!!! How in the world do the expect us to be able to pay our bills!! We were just getting back on our feet from the froughlow and now this.....
I just want to burry my head and cry right now... OK vent over...Sorry

I think it is a disgrace for pay to be kept from anyone who has served our country, I think that is the lowest of the low.

I am sorry to hear about that.
I work for the federal government as well. One thing that should make you feel at least a little bit better is that he couldn't possibly be furloughed for two months--the government may resolve its issues in a matter of days.
Also, I dont know the capacity in which your husband serves, but I beleive that all military will get paid during the shutdown. Pay could be delayed, but you should see the money at some point. Hoep this helps.

I totally agree!!! They risk their lives for this country for our freedoms! Shame on the House of Congress!! I am so sorry your family along with so many others have to go through this.

she said he was ALREADY furloghed for 2 months. So it's happening.
Browneyes, I know what you are going through. My DH has been laid off for almost 3 months now...he is union. it has been this way the past few years. being out of work for months on end seems to be normal now. We will get through it!
It makes me so upset that the first place to see cuts is the military who do so much for us. I hate our government. I have no faith in them anymore.

no he was already froughlow for just under 2 months that just recently ended maybe 3 weeks ago. Now we are dealing with this.. He had to go into work today for a meeting about it they said they are hoping it will be resolved in a week but to plan for 2.... Its just so frustrating..
He is a full time reserve so its alittle different then "active" military but its its full time job mon-friday 7-4 so its our only income. I don't mean to vent I know others are going threw the same thing or worse but for us right now it stinks and hurts and no bill collector will care why we are late ya know.

I saw on the news that the military is going to continue to get paid during the shutdown... I don't know the specifics of it (if it covers everyone or what) but is he sure he won't be getting paid?

browneyes you have every right to vent. I can't believe those hit hardest are those that serve. It's nuts. My husband is a Marine as well. He has a full time job now but he won't be getting any benefits from the military for his injuries in action, etc. Its so unfair.

I agree. It's DISGUSTING. I don't know how this is OK!?!?!?!
My husband served for 6 months over in afghanistan...he works his butt off for his country and in his position. He was thanked with a furlough and now is on his way home facing potential unpaid leave. It's a disgrace. Many others have it worse and I feel for them...

This country is truly disgusting and has hit an all time low.
I'm really ashamed to be an American lately.
We can pay baseball players MILLIONS upon millions to play a dumb game.
@ssholes like the Kardashians live in the lap of luxury for being vapid wh0res.
Yet those that serve our country are screwed.
Yeah this country is going to helll in a handbasket.

Yup. It's so ridiculous. Pretty much all of DH's family work for the Space Center in Florida - NASA. All furloughed. My BIL & SIL who have 2 kids. His cousin and his fiancee who have a child and are getting married in 2 weeks. They all work together. It sucks.

I hope everyone is calling their Congressperson to complain. Especially those who live out of state, perhaps in a Republican state so that both sides get some heat. You might call other elected officials as well as they are talking to their district's congress members trying to find out how this will affect their districts because it is doing so. I found that out when I called my Assemblyman this morning.

I work for the government and found out Mon night at work that we don't know when we will get paid. I am essential personnel so I HAVE to come to work without knowing when my next paycheck will be. They already took our built in overtime away from us in July and they said we probably won't get it back..ever...so I lose $400/month from what I used to make, which is already a pretty low salary. I work over night just so I can make a little more.
To make up for not getting OT some of us come in late for shift & others leave early so we are minimally staffed...and I am in law enforcement so this is not how you want your shift to run.
We are just making our bills the way things are going..DH still hasn't found a job..but now I have no idea how things will get paid with no money coming in...the government bails out banks and then tells it's employees "good luck..we appreciate you...keep up the good work..we know things are tough"  I live near DC so it's so sad to see how many people are affected!
