Traveling with infant and toddler... TSA help, please.

Flying to Italy Saturday. Wondering what is permissible to carry on with me for the kids. DS has milk sensitivity so he is still on formula. Am I allowed to bring a couple of bottles of unopened water and powdered formula for his bottles? Also, jarred food for him and Juice boxes and snacks for 3 y.o. Is fruit (like a banana) allowed? Any experience with this is appreciated. Last time I flew with DD as an infant, she was on milk, so the stewardess just gave it to me as needed.

Re: Traveling with infant and toddler... TSA help, please.

We just went to Florida last week with our 18 month old DD. I can't answer for the formulas since we didn't have to take bottles with us, but we were allowed water in her sippy cups (they did test it), and brought all kinds of snacks including Dr. Pragers fish sticks and vegetables in a tupper with no problem... I did also take a banana with me as well.
Hope that helps a bit!

For the baby you are allowed to bring bottlles of Formula or even water for the baby. I traved to Europe and had maybe 4 bottles made up and no problems either way. They just tested it.

I took DS to FL when he was 4 months and I just brought the poweder and bought water ont he other side of security. You are supposed to be able to bring items for the baby but to avoid any hassle since they are allowed to test it etc. I just avoided it and bought a bottle for the plane on the other side and then bought a big pack of formula and water when I got to FL. IF they do not have the formula in Italy then I would pack most of it in my checked and only bring what I needed and some extra just in case.

The powdered formula and food is fine. I would buy liquids after security to avoid any hassles and to get through quicker.

Buy the bottles of water once you get through security, snacks should be fine. I just flew here on Monday, they do ask about liquids. Be prepared to taste the formula, I had to do that when my little one was a baby.

Food, snacks, water and formula you will get thru with no problem
Ask if they have a family line for you to use at security
Tell security as you begin to put our stuff on the belt that you have liquids for the kids
I have flown out of JFK twice and never had a problem - they will look thu your stuff and test if needed ( which is nothing a all)
Once they wiped my hands with a paper I think to test for explosives etc
Bring what you need and you will be fine

here is a link to the TSA site with info...

tsa site

"Medically necessary liquids and gels, including medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are exempt from the 3-1-1 rules, and are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding 3.4 ounces (100ml). They are not required to be in a zip-top bag. Officers may ask travelers to open these items to conduct additional screening and passengers should declare them for inspection at the checkpoint. "
