Town of Oyster Bay - Sanitation
How are your guys? Do they take all of your garbage? We never did our garbage men wrong and they leave us notes at the slightest thing all the time. I have a very close friend in Sanitation and he laughs at it, but it's making us furious!
We paid someone to cut down trees and bundle them for garbage pick-up and it's all set up on the curb...and they are threatening to issue a violation if we do not move them 12 inches back within 12 hours. I don't understand - we didn't expect them to take it all...but if we paid someone for lawn service...and that was part of it, why would we undue the work we paid for and move them back? This is why they get NO tip and the mail lady gets double tip - forget going above and beyond, can't even do their job without complaining. I swear they act like the mob! Everyone tells me their garbage men take everything...we must be the only ones!

funny! we just got a yellow slip left on our car's windshield from them....
we had left a bunch of empty boxes out (but packed boxes in boxes) so it was one big box....
the slip said "break down cartons, bundle and tie"
they have been very good to us... we moved in 4 months ago...so we were always throwing out stuff...big stuff too! They've been very tolerant of us. I knew eventually we'd be "scolded"

We put everything out and they always take it. We've never gotten a note from them. As long as the it doesn't weigh too much.

My DH will not put out our regular garbage out of fear of their love letters...after today's incident - I think I'm going to make 10 bags of garbage to meet the max EVERY time for them!

they are usually very good! they take everything.
the boxes we got the "notice" on were from our new patio furniture and the BBQ...so they were big!

We have gotten a few yellow slips
But we didnt follow the rules at all
OUr house is under construction so we just threw alot of stuff on the curb.
But when we did live there before the construction we never had a problem.

Ours are great. We've only gotten one slip in a year. We also tipped very well over the holidays

omg,we have gotten a few slips over the years as well. what pita.. once thet would not take out garbage , beacuse the pail itself was over the size limit, yet it wasnt full. My uncle is on the DSNY for over 25 years & he  at it . Silly

They're pretty good over here. We threw out so much garbage and only got a slip one time for leaving something on the curb too early.
We've thrown doors out, mirrors, huge pieces of wood...

So they must just hate us. We tipped when we first moved in and they were like, don't worry about it, any time...I even did some sanitation name dropping  , but we noticed they changed guys...and these guys do NOT like us! Oh well...they are stuck with us for a LONG time!

I cut all of the old lady shrubs, bundled them and put them to the curb. My wife said "there is no way they are going to take that", next morning all gone. I have put large items (original dishwasher, must have weighed 300 lbs) and they are there in the morning but by noon, gone. I did get one note for a large can, so instead I leave 10 huge bags or huge bundles and no problems.....

They will only take larger things and not give us violations if we tip them. They aren't supposed to take tips, so this annoys me. They have written us violations in the past for the smallest things too that should not be getting violations for.

I once also had my garbage cans thrown on my lawn....all the way on top.
Apparently, I hear we arent the only ones who had probs with them.

Well they called to complain about one of our cans having a whole in the bottom once and the supervisor came by to leave a note...and THEY got in trouble. It said "I noticed your cans were thrown on your lawn...they will be spoken to."
I seriously feel like they are trying to threaten and bully us into giving them tips. I'll triple my mail lady's tip before giving them a single penny!

HOWEVER, for the life of me i cannot figure out what they are always honking their horns at, at 5AM!!!!
i swear at least once a week ,they'll honk their horns, i don't know if they do it if people leave out to much garbage or what, but if it happens again i think i'm going to call the town.

Exactly! I don't get tips to do my job...why do they feel so entitled...that's the career they chose. And I am SURE my 9,000 a year in taxes covers a lot of their salaries...JUST DO YOUR JOB AND STOP BEING A NINNY!
And DH noticed we had some spill or something in our driveway...and our friend who is a garbage man laughed and said they let the truck leak there on purpose if you piss them off. What are they going to do next, leave a dead horse head in our bed????

This honking drives my dh crazy!! I thought it was only our block.
FWIW they make a decent salary too.
